Hi guys,

I have 6 adult cats (indoor / outdoor), and they never eat together at the same time :) some don't like eat next to others :)

I was leaving dry food for all day, and wet in mornings and evenings. My two female cats getting overweight so I have to reduce the amount. I read that feeding cat twice a day is enough, and all day free food is bad.

Do you think they will figure out the time when food is available if I leave the food for two hours in the morning and for 2 hours in the evening only?

Best Regards

Maja

I think most cats prefer to get 3 meals a day. 4 if you can manage it. Cats naturally eat many small meals (mice :D) a day. Most people who work full-time can manage 3 meals---before work, after work, and at bedtime. If you don't work FT you might be able to do 4 meals.

Anyway, yes, your cats will get used to the new schedule. It might take a while (cats hate change!) but they'll get it eventually

W Willowy is absolutely right that more, smaller meals are closer to how a cat would naturally eat. Having said that, many cats here do just fine on two meals a day :) You can always add a snack in just before bed if they seem overly hungry in the mornings ;)

And yes, they WILL learn that food is only available at set times and adapt accordingly...and pretty quickly too. [article="31129"][/article]
