Hi there!

It is very unlikely that your cat is a purebred or part Russian blue. It looks like you have a lovely family of grey domestic short hairs, which are lovely cats! Your cats do exhibit the emerald eyes and coat color of the Russian blue, but there is no way to be certain that the cats are in fact this breed without knowing their lineage. I wouldn't use the term Russian blue unless the cats are pedigreed or you're certain that they are purebred and in line with breed confirmation.

Beautiful family regardless and best wishes,

Beth

Welcome to TCS!  What a sweet looking family.  I can't get over how devoted the daddy is, right there in the nest with the whole family.  So precious!!

SunOerSea, their paw pads are mauve if that helps with defining the ancestry.
From day one, daddy has been grooming and watching out for his little ones. I've never heard of a male cat doing that Mazie.

If it helps define the ancestry, their paw pads are mauve. All of them. I know that I can't "label" them Russian Blues to sell without pedigree but I am curious.

That is not THAT unique.  But also, this IS an indicium they may have RB heritage for real.  RB males are known to be kind and friendly to their wifes - and kittens...

That is perhaps why I KNOW this is not so unique: because with RB it doesnt matter much if there happens to be an oops mating - no havoc with the colors or nothing - so its apparently not uncommon with RB breeders they let the whole family live together.  And the kittens doenst need to be biological children of the stud - as long as he is best friend with momma, he will take care of the kittens too.

Otherwise I agree with the said earlier.  Lookwise, they could be RB of pet quality. Easily, But withouth papers nor solid background  (or even an enough unsure background!) we cant count them as RB, we must count them as silverblue domestics, somewhat look alike of RB...

could we also see a couple of good pics on the father?  Face,  Eyes, and the head profile too.

Although what's said above is true about not being able to really know, I think daddy fits the look of a RB more so than mom. Mom has a more angular, oriental looking face while RB are typically more rounded off like the daddy's face.

I myself think momma looks OK Russianish.  Not show winner, but a nice European RB-type.   If I met here on the street, I wouldnt think twice, I would greet her in russian.  with some of the few phrases I can.  :)

I dont connect the daddy with any modern lines of RB.  BUT.  I remember several years ago I was visiting home pages of some polish breeders of RB.  Where they had also their first studs, their ancestors.  I remember, some of them looked quite alike the family father here...

So whom knows, they have perhaps as ancestor immigrants from The Old Country??   :)

Was she sold to you as a purebred Russian Blue?? She is very beautiful but unless she has papers, she would be classified as a domestic shorthair. There is nothing wrong with that. The vast majority of cats are NOT purebred. That doesn't take anything away from their ability to be loving friends and companions.

I'd only have issue with anything if she was sold to you as a purebred RB and they did not provide you with papers because they could not but they charged you close to a purebred price. It happens every single day. Especially on Craigslist.

A beautiful famiy! What texture are their coats? To me they don't look quite thick and dense enough to be RB. There should be two distinct layers, bottom layer very soft and downy and the top layer very thick and should stand up a bit. And the colour should shimmer slightly.
