My fiance and I found a stray kitten yesterday. We think she is 5 to 6 weeks old. Her eyes were matted shut when we found her. She is skin and bones and only weighs 11 ounces. She is weak but fighting. I have canned cat food but she doesn't seem interested in trying to eat it. I also have KMR but I don't know how often I should give it to her and how much? Can anyone help me? Is there anything else you'd recommend to give her? She will be getting medicine today.

Begin with a little, but often, say every hour...  Increase after some time...

How will you adminsiter the KMR?    syringe in the mouth?   you can begin to let her suck of your fingers....

Honey water is good to smear on lips and gum to  give some energy.

Goats milk is a good alternative to kmr...

Keep her warm - the weak ones are always freezing.  Talk a lot friendly...

What medicines are you giving her?

Some pedialyte as fluid is also good -

continue to report!

With this low weigh, she is direclty emaciated, so you must begin with little, but often, and begin with something easy to digest, honey water, as the next step kmr or goats milk...

pedialyte as fluid source - bought flavorless pedialyte for babies is good

Ok first thing is a kiten can and shou have as uch ood as they want a kitten should eat every two hour. they should be kept in th same position as f they where nursing.head upon there belly. you will need a syring. if you see they do't have much energy you can smear some honey or gluose on there gust helpgive them energy. i would take he kite the vet the kitten could have an infection upper respitory hence they eye junk. kmr is good feed every two hours. y must weight the kitten erery day it should be gaining weight every day.

With her that emaciated, be careful with medicines - do not use anything hefty nor strong...  Unless directly necessary for immediate survival.

Homemade pedialyte, there are many receips, but as glucose sugar source you can use honey.  Minerale water is good for getting a good source of different salts ,but you can use common kitchen salt too to begin with..

What country are you in?  So we know what is possible for you to get....

You seems to have already a scale, good, weigh her every day.

If she hitherto was with momma, she probably cant eat by herself her - she doesn know how.  Also, she is prob too weak...  Trick her into eating, by suckling from your finger, kmr or goats milk.  beginning with honey water to give some energy and water...

Have honey water and some little salt in it, to be sort of a basic pedialyte... as a beginning.

She is surely very dehydrated too...   And weak....   Fight on, and hope for the best, but dont be devastaded if she doenst make it. Being that emaciated is always highly dangerous.

Could we have a photo to appreciate the age and overall looks?

I just cleaned up her eyes. Only one was matted shut this morning. She also practically attacked me for the canned cat food. She ate a little bit of it and then I gave her a few milliliters of KMR using a syringe. She seems to have some energy today. I have a baci train ointment for her eyes and I got a liquid medicine. The liquid medicine is Clindamycin. I'm in the United States.

OK, sounds good so far. On the pic she isnt that emaciated, but her being medium hair we dont see the body shape exactly.  Still, good you began slowly.

and its not THAT desperate as I feared.  So probably not Red Alert, but surely Yellow Alert on till you see she is apparently OK.

The rule of thumb with kmr is 8ml / oz / day, with 11 ounces its about 90 ml a day.  Canned cat food is more energy tight, so you dont need as much using wet food.  Still, its good to have an idea.  But the first two days it must be less, because you must get in the tempo slowly - but sure.

And simply weigh her often, so you see if she gains.
