good morning!
for today's Question of the Day, let's have some fun!
Imagine that you've been stranded on a tropical island.
You'll be there for several years, until you get 'rescued'. There's a fresh water pond on the island, and there are plenty of fish in the shallow water along the edges of the island too. There's also an abundance of fruit growing on the island. There are trees, and some forest/jungle areas there too.
For the sake of our 'peace of mind', we'll stipulate that our cats will be well cared for and will be there waiting for us when we've been 'rescued'. And......there's also a fellow 'strandee' on the island......a young cat!
If you could bring one backpack of items/supplies with you, what would you bring?
i'll start!
hmmmm. i'd start with 3, 250 count boxes of wooden kitchen matches -- for starting my campfires for the night, until i became proficient at getting a fire started without matches. two multi purpose folding hunting/camping jack knives, two multi purpose folding tactical survival knives, two knife/ax/hammer/can opener tools -- i'm 'big' on having spares of important things. i'd bring 4-6 'heatsheets', the kind that are reversible so you face the silver side towards you to reflect your heat back on you or you can face the silver side away from your body to deflect heat away from you in hot weather. one cast iron skillet. two 'bucket' type cotton hats. and some durable lightweight cotton fabric, a small pack of sewing needles, and 3 or 4 spools of extra strength thread -- knowing myself, i'll have to mend my clothing and probably need to put together some makeshift clothing at some point. a basic first aid kit -- the sewing needles and thread can also be used to stitch up gashes or other injuries. two canteens, and a length of strong, durable rope. and, very important, sturdy fishing net. 4 emergency flares, so when there's a boat or ship passing by close enough i can light one -- in order to be 'rescued'.
i'd also bring a photo of my cats, and 4-6 paperback books. i'd bring a roll of string and some ping pong balls -- toys for my feline fellow strandee!
okay, now it's your turn!
