Hi there! A couple of weeks ago, we took in a wonderful kitty that had been abandoned at my in-law's farm when her owner moved away. She is too awesome to be a farm cat, so we had to take her. The previous owner had said she was fixed, however when I brought her to the vet they couldn't find any sign of spaying. We decided to wait on spaying her until we know for sure if she found a little boyfriend before we brought her home. Now I notice her scrawny little belly expanding and her nipples are pronounced and pink (although I don't know what they looked like before!). So I was wondering if someone could help me out and tell me if these look like pregnant nipples?!? Thank you!

It's hard to say for certain from a picture, but she sounds pregnant if her belly is expanding. Most female cats who are unspayed and outdoors wind up pregnant.

Nipples pink up at day 21, and the belly begins to show around week 5. Pregnancy lasts about 65-68 days.

She should be eating unlimited dry kitten chow and wet food now and through nursing.

Have you set up a nest for her? She may not use it yet though, but cats prefer dark, private places like a closet in your bedroom.

I hope she was not given any vaccines during pregnancy.

Thanks for taking her in! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thanks for your response! When I first brought her to the vet a couple weeks ago, we decided to hold off on vaccinations until we were sure of the pregnancy status, thank goodness. I have two boys who love to make "kitty houses" out of cardboard boxes, so they've begun work decorating the outside of a special nesting box for her (which will be in my closet). If kittens are in our future, a spay will closely follow! [emoji]128512[/emoji]

Her nipples don't look definitively pregnant, could go either way. I would kind of hope the previous owner would know if she's spayed or not ;). It's possible she's just putting on weight due to not being outdoors anymore. See if you can get more info from the previous owners---like when she was spayed and which vet did it. Otherwise, just wait a few weeks and it should become evident, lol.

Yup, it's definitely clear she's pregnant!...and farther along than I would have thought too! I can see them moving and kicking like crazy, so I'm a little nervous about the big day. :)

It's normal to feel nervous, but most cats do just fine! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

Help! My cat is delivering her babies (not in the lovely nesting area I set up) in a covered box in the basement, and I know I should leave her be...it just looked as though she was strangling one new kitten with her back legs while the next kitten was coming! I began to want to rescue it, but that just made her uneasy...so all I should do is just leave her alone, correct? I have feared losing the kittens so much, so it's hard to stay away!

How is it going now? I would follow mom's lead, but continue checking and stay close in case of emergency.

I think you should step in and make sure the kittens are okay as they are being born, or if they need moving out of the way.

Just move slowly and speak softly.

It seems as though it's over now, and I hear a few different little meows. So I'll give her some peace for a bit and then check to make sure she's still ok! I just can't wait to give her some nice clean towels

Ok! I went down to give her fresh food, water and her litter box and she came right out to greet me and get some love...and then returned to her 3 healthy-looking kittens! I brought her nice clean nesting box down as well, and she seemed to like that. We'll see if she transfers them over!

Her name is Tillie! I'm going to leave the new family alone for the night, now that I know she has everything she needs. Hopefully her motherly instincts will guide her well. :)

To move or not to move...this pic is blurry, but I am horrified of this box she delivered in yesterday and want to move her and kittens to a nice box lined with comfy blankets instead. She and her 5 (not 3 haha) kittens seem happy, but as you can see, I can't really see how they're developing if they stay in this box, stained from her delivery. Should I leave them or move them to a new box I'll put in the same spot??? I don't want her to be upset at me and take it out on her babies!

You should be able to move them as long as the new box is big enough for mom to stretch out and nurse in.

It seems to me like more space than the other one, but I lined her old box with a clean blanket just in case!

Sounds good!

Have you weighed the kittens? Are they nursing well?

What is the temperature like in the basement?
