My vet just gave my cat a shot of Convenia for what may be a bladder infection (couldn't get a urine sample). She gave it with a 6mg tablet of Onsior (an NSAID).

The vet acted like this antibiotic was no big deal and didn't warn me of the potential side effects. I read in the pamphlet on the manufacturer website that it shouldn't be given with NSAIDs.

I'm really really worried.

Has anyone given their cat Convenia and NOT had a bad reaction? Is there anything in particular that I should be looking out for?

Watch for excessive lethargy or change in eating habits.  My kitty had a convenia shot in February (without my knowledge or consent) and she didn't have as severe a reaction to it this time as she did 8 years ago when she had it.

One of my cats had a Covenia shot for a UTI.  I went with antibiotic injection because he is impossible to give medicine to.  I did not know about the side effects until someone mentioned it on here.  My cat did not have any reaction at all.

Thanks for your replies. I realize that most people don't write about drugs that have worked well (only when there are negative effects), but there are so many reports of negative effects that have gotten me really worried and upset that they'd give such an aggressive drug and give it with the NSAIDS. It's been 3 hours...she still can't pee. We played and she was still playful...only 65 days to go (the vet also said it only lasts 10 days).

I had a kitten with what was likely feline herpes after the oral antibitics failed to clear up his nose and eyes at 9 weeks he had the shot thar last 14 days I had small kids and thought it was a grear idea and you know he was fine in fact got much better. Giving antibiotics on time is important to there effectiveness

One of my cats probably had at least 10 Covenia shots through his lifetime. He had anal gland issues. He lived to be 15 and never had side effects from the shots.

The shelter I work at takes in a fair number of strays and has lots of ferals in a resident colony, so Convenia is often the only option. In the nearly two years I've been working there 5 or 6 days a week, there haven't been problems with Convenia side effects.
