Hi has anyone's cat had a catheter before? My cat had one today to remove crystals from his bladder. Everything went well and all removed, he also got a shot of antibiotics as they found further bacteria but they never said he'd experience any pain or irritation afterwards but I have noticed he seems in quite a bit of discomfort. He's licking his privates continuously, sitting funnily, sometimes not sitting on his back end at all, he keeps crying and seems to be in quite a lot of discomfort bless him. Is this normal after a catheter? He's definitely in discomfort in that area and its been a good few hours now since he had it, he just won't stop licking the area, he can't seem to sit on it for long and when he does sit he's sitting funnily. Just want to know if this is normal and anything I can do to minimise discomfort? I don't like seeing him in so much discomfort my poor wee thing.

My poor guy had some bladder stones removed around a month ago now, he had complications afterward, which meant many a catheter. He had one in for two days (which he removed himself...with an e-collar on, he doesn't have time for such things.)They do have some irritation in that area for a day or so I noticed, my guy was licking and generally uncomfortable especially after using the litter box. I'm sure it hurts to pee when you're all irritated. Just make sure he's still urinating well, you don't want any crystals coming back and wreaking havoc. Basically keep an eye on him, call his vet if you're too worried. I hope he feels better soon!
