HI everyone

24 hours ago I've rescued a stray female pregnant calico. Before rescuing her I've been feeding her for about two weeks there where she used to live in a parking lot downtown in a very busy street. I figured it out that during the day she will sleep in the back yard of an abandoned house next to the parking lot, that is why I had to feed her just around 7PM each day after sunset, when she will always show up to eat her meal. During the day she will hide inside that abandoned house.

THE PROBLEM IS that she is missing after I've brought her home. She is a very affectionate cat and it was easy for me to get her inside the kennel right there in the parking lot. Inside the kennel she was very very stressed at first. After the trip and once in my room she was very vocal and after releasing her from the kennel and always inside the room, she will calm down after an hour. Hours later by 3AM she escaped. It was my mistake to leave a window just half and inch open, so when I fell sleep she cleverly managed to jump open the window and get away.

I want to get her back as soon as possible and take care of her before the kittens come. I'm guessing she needs at least 1 week more before giving birth.

Because she is mostly a displaced cat will she run away very far?  I've looked for her the whole day even blocks away. I'm guessing she is not afraid from cars. There are other stray cats right by my house, actually a whole cat family (male&female + 3 kittens) I do live right by the 1st floor of my apartment building and this cat family is living in the parking lot. People are feeding them. There is actually a stray female dog living inside the apartment building complex as well. There are four buildings in total and plenty of trees and bushes to hide.

When I rescued her I just couldn't leave behind another female cat, which was living with her in the same parking lot downtown. SO I BROUGHT HOME THE TWO CATS AT THE SAME TIME THE SAME DAY. They were very affectionate with each other once in my room after releasing them from their kennels.

I'm planning to take the stray companion cat I still have inside a kennel, go outside once it gets dark tonight, so either maybe the smell of the companion cat or having the companion cat vocalizing while inside the kennel will pick her attention up and bring her back to me, thought, I do not know if this will actually help and just stress the companion cat. I do have sardines as well and probably sitting outside in the middle of the night waiting for her to show up could help out.

PLEASE ADVISE!!!!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Andres.

So sorry that this has happened to you and I can only imagine how anxious you are for the well being of the cat. I can't offer any help but I hope she comes back soon. Please let us know the outcome. Thank you for being kind enough to give her a home.

She is going to try to get back "home" - the abandoned house.  That is the territory she's used to.  In addition to the  idea you have to attract her with the other cat, please make sure you search along the route back to the house.

Vibes you find her!

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I'm definitely very anxious to see her and to take very good care of her and the babies inside her. The thing is, the parking lot where she used to live is about 3.8 miles from my house. There is a highway in between. I have the other female inside the kennel now waiting for her to vocalize a little bit. I've searched many many times the apartment complex building plus walk at least a good mile around my house during the day just in case. I've searched in bushes around trees and under many cars. I think these night hours are exactly what she was waiting for the whole day just to come out from her hiding place. I really hope she is still around the apartment building complex. That is my main concern right now.

Thanks,

Andres

Good news!!! I found her!!! Thanks to a bullying cat that made her scream so loud that I could actually locate her. I'm so glad she remained roaming around the apartment building complex and did not leave. Now I'm concerned about her health. She seems fine, although hyper hungry and hyper thirsty. I will take her to a Vet a.s.a.p
