Hello,

I have 9 month old white kitten called Daisy who has developed dark coloured skin at the tips of her ears, they have been getting darker throughout the last 2 months. Is it something to be of concern as im afraid it's sun damage? Im going to take her to the vets to be sure. The areas which are going darker have not become red/sore/sensitive nor seem to cause discomfort. They are also not raised but seem more like the skin pigment.

She has also developed a dark line across her nose too. She only has access to the outside on a leash every other day for about 30mins/1hour and brought a baby friendly SPF 50 sun cream which i used on her ears. I'm so scared i've damaged her and now only let her out when it's cloudy and dawn/dusk. I have pale skin and always look after myself in the sun and know what it's like!

Many Thanks,

Alice Kinsley.

A similar thing happened to the Rogue. He was a tiny white kitten when I found him, and then the ears got dark, and dark stripes appeared on his back. He was inside for his first year until he tricked his way out, so nothing to do with the sun.

I'm sure you'll notice some blisters/ dead skin if there was sun damage. You could always supplement with some Omega3 as a precaution (best are capsuled ones, pierced open and sprinkled onto food).

So, don't fret, and congratulations to having a color changing cat! They are one of a kind.

Thank you! Will try some Omega3  supplement as no harm in trying!

Sounds like she carries the colorpoint gene (colorpoints look like siamese, they are born all white and then slowly develop dark patches on their nose, ears, paws and tail). It seems to be showing up quite late. She may have a lot of white masking the points though, which may be why you didn't notice the markings before. Could you post a picture of her and the darker markings you are seeing?

I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

She looks like she has a little bit of lilac (as in the cat fur color lilac, not the actual color lilac) coloring coming in. Can you get a picture of the spot on the nose?
