VÃ:censor:ctor just commissioned a signature to be made by TCS Royal Court Artist Gothic Amethyst. I went to her workshop at the third floor of the TCS compound with the photos needed and instructions.

Now that the work of art is out of the workshop I must put it to the art critics... do you like it?

Victor, we do ask our members to try and remember that those with dial up connections would prefer if the sigs were about the size of a business card over all. Some of our members simply make a cat page and leave the link to their page in their sig line so people can go there and see the cats in a larger size.

This signature and GA's as well does not conform to this requirement-

Hissy, one question: Wouldn't is be impossible to comply with such a requirement? The size of a business card is way too small to hold any signature.

I easily understand why you want it to have a certain limit of Computer memory space, as in computers of 28 k it will be harder to download, but the same way that when 12 KB was proposed, it is too small. Wouldn't it business card, be too small?

Also, the inches of a photo does not affect its downloadibilty in a slow PC, it is the amount of KB it consumes.

As for the limit of KB, although I agree that there must be a limit, I also think it needs to be revised every now and then - as computers get faster and the fast ones get obsolete, it is needed to put a hihger limit, not only because of that, but because of chaning programs - the same word processing file that 9 years ago occupied 3 kilobytes, nowadays occupies 19 or 24 Kb, because its different programs that have kept progressing. The same thing happens with images.

What about those ideas? Don't think this is a scathing letter or angry because you've said my sig does not meet requirements, just giving a suggestion and at the same time giving my friendly opinion.

Victor,

I do not think you left a scathing reply and I hope you did not think I was doing the same.
It is not just the size of the image, but the size of the actual file that comes into question. As we get larger in membership we just try to keep everyone aware that not every person who comes here is on cable connection. Were it not for the fact that phone companies are raking in a mint by DSL it would probably be obsolete right now, sort of like 8-tracks and cassettes.
We can't demand that everyone comply to a request, we just want to make people aware there is sometimes a problem with larger size sigs. Most boards don't even allow images in sigs either.

Somewhere on the board is a thread about this very subject I will see if I can scare it up.

I forgot to tell you you didnt have to start a new thread to test your sig! Ooopss.....I'm curious though..why do you call me the 'royal court artist'? You told me what you wanted for the sig and provided the pics...I just did the work. That makes me more of a court jester!

VÃ:censor:ctor just pm'd me about this and I'm gonna make the file size smaller. At the time when I made it I wasnt aware about the file size.
Deb Pm'd me either yesterday or the day before and we got mine in the legal limit. She said visually it's ok, just that the file size was too large so I divided my sig in half and now it's two small files. She said its fine now, so I'll do the same with VÃ:censor:ctor's sig.

Kings and Queens back in the Rennaissance always had their court artist - the guy who would make all those portraits of the Royal Family. For example, the famous painting of Napoleon´'s coronation as Emperor of France was made by his court painter. Many times those court artists were among the best painters in the country - so its a good thing!

Cougar, I don't know what did I say that set you off track - but according to some I am bigger than most 15 year olds.

Hissy, I never thought about your post as a scathing letter
I just thought about the fact that a business card is somewhat too small... almost all of the sigs here are larger than that.

I don't know if something can be done too keep that sig smaller - Amber had made it small just to have it enter the limits. Amber, when you finish working on it send it to me.

Although I want to disagree with you Hissy, on something: The fact that it is dial up. I have got dialup and have never had a problem with speed. I think it is more due to the computer. If you have got a fast PC in itself, and new operating system then it really doesn't matter if its dial up or DSL. If you have got an old and slow PC then regardless of what connection you've got, it will be slow.

I guess we ought to do an analysis one of these days... start checking what are the oldest possible systems that an average member may have and what can those systems accept as far as pics and graphics go. That way we can get the most accurate limit to put. Don't you agree? I am computer savvy, so I can help a lot with such an analyisis... the idea is a bit big, so for the specifics of it you can PM me.

Im a medieval freak and I'm familiar with that. I just wondered why you chose to call me that. Making a sigs not that hard. I can do real art. I know it was meant as a compliment and thanks...I just dont feel deserving because of a simple sig.

You're 15!! Whoa! I'm confused! In the valentine's thread you said your 'partner' was sick....um...

I got your PM and I'm working on the size right now. I'll send it thru email when it's done. For now just remove your old one. I'll send it tonight as soon as I can. I need to go cook something to eat...I've not eaten all day. I've not been that hungry until now.

Ok... it seems that I've got a lot to explain... let me start.

I am 15 yrs of age.. yes... I've got a girlfriend. Now, the truth is that Vicky (yes, she's got the female version of my own name
) isn't exactly the kind of girlfriend/boyfriend relation you expect at this age... we are more of very, very close friends who confide in each other everything. We also try to meet somewhere near St. Valentines day... and have a lot of chocolate... we are chocoholics.

Now, the detail is that because of reasons beyond our control that all our relationship is a secret from our parents or friends - officially I haven't got a girlfriend
so keep quiet about it... shhhhhh.

yoviher:
That explains it...I thought you looked young in your sig pic! It's good you have a 'girlfriend' and that you two are close. I wish you luck, but dont rush things. You are still young.

Your sig works and looks ok.

Thanks Amber. Don't worry, thought. We know we are young, and like it that way! No rush... all the contrary, we want to go slower!

Cougar: Let me guess... I sounded much more mature than 15. Not that I think that... just that you are the gazzillionth person who says that
Don't worry, I like hearing that.

Victor, Cougar was the 15 millionith person who said you sounded mature the way you talk? HMMm....Are you a 'genius?'

Cause I do agree with him(Cougar), you do sound mature and seem very intelligent beyond your 15 years of life...
