Hello, The Cat Site! I just joined the forum today after all my Google searches about cats turned up links to it. There's a lot of great information here! I am a brand new cat owner, we got our kittens about a week and a half ago. They are 10 weeks old, mixed breed (I think!). I have never been a "cat person" as such, though I have always got on well with cats, we had a dog when I was growing up and my mom had dogs after I left home. However, my husband is very much a cat person and when my friend's daughter's cat's kittens (whew!) needed homes we took the opportunity to adopt two of them. It has been a learning curve for me because while I feel like I know where I am with dogs, cats are a mystery. Fortunately my little fur babies have been pretty good so far. They eat well and use the litter tray and play well together, and they were little angels for their first trip to the vet yesterday. They are very sweet and affectionate and I love when they snuggle up in my lap and go to sleep. We have snuggle naptime together most afternoons. They do get a bit rambunctious and are always climbing up things even if they can't get back down and poking their little noses into everything, but I don't mind this. I'd rather they be brave and adventurous even if it sometimes leads to trouble than be fearful.

Today they very obligingly sat in this basket and consented to be photographed. This is Hugo, my little boy:

And this is Hester, my baby girl. She can be hard to photograph in low light so I had to edit this photo a lot. She is all black with a little white star on the tip of her tail.

I am going to need a lot of advice as they grow up, so will definitely be mining this forum even further!

Hello and welcome to all 3 of you!!  They are beyond precious!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of cat servitude!! It sounds like they learned a lot from mama kitty. Kittens are so much fun and good for you for taking 2 of them. I really believe that they do better in pairs.

We are here if you need any advice about anything and of course, the more pictures the better. Have they been spayed/neutered yet?

Thanks! It's so nice to have a resource like this. Hurrah for the internet! They are pretty well behaved though I took half a dozen photos of each to get one where they were sitting nicely and looking at the camera. They got in the basket of their own accord. First Hugo got in and I took his picture, then I left the room and when I returned Hester was in the basket. They haven't been spayed/neutered yet. We took them to the vet for their vaccinations last Monday but because Hugo was having a bit of trouble with his tummy the vet started them on deworming meds instead and they'll have their shots next week. We definitely will be getting them fixed and microchipped over the next few weeks/months. They're 10 weeks now, what age do kittens normally get spayed/neutered?

They are so, so cute. There really is nothing cuter than a kitten.... except many kittens

They can be spayed/neutered now. They need to be at least eight weeks of age and weigh at least two pounds. If you need help finding a low cost spay/neuter program near you, please let us know where you are located (closest city) and we will help you look for one. The sooner it gets done the better. You do not want inbred kittens
