Good afternoon,

I have a 9 month old female kitten who was the runt of the litter she is active and eats but when I took her the vet she weighed 7.2 LBS. When I weighed her today what I did is I weighed  me first and then both of us and subtracted the two weights together she came out weighing 5 LBS. Like I said she is healthy and does eat her kitten food but she runs around a lot and plays. She is a black dml female. Her medical records said that she doesn't have to go back for shots for next year. I was just shocked when she lost 2 LBS. Anyone have any idea on how much she should weigh at her kitten age? She gets a 3/4 cups of kitten dry food and can of kitten food twice daily which if she doesn 't finish in 20 minutes I wrap up and put in the fridge.

Hi cat lady 5, welcome to the Catsite :wavey:

Generally female cats weigh less than male cats and since your cat seems like to have a clean bill of health. As she is eating normally is a good sign. Probably she is active and the amount she is eating, therefore she does not weigh that heavy. But sudden weight loss is a concern.

But I would recommend that you just keep tab on her and check her weight regularly and also look out for some abnormality.

Do let us know the progress.

Strange that she has lost weight.  It is more the loss of weight than her only being 5 lb that I would question because TabbyTom is right: female cats can weigh a lot less than males.   How long have you had her, and what is the time frame between when your vet weighed her and thought she was healthy through to when you weighed her recently?

That's good news. Has she been eating more with regular excercises or eating more without excercises that contribute to her slight gain in weight?

As long as she is not loosing weight drastically and when you run your hands by her side and you don't feel much of her ribs she should be ok. But if you really can't feel her ribs, probably she is overweight.

As long as she don't tipped the scale to either sides in an abnormal way, I would not worry too much of her weight. Just be on the look out for her general health.
