Hi, my cat Morris recently had an enormous mass of fur and food that had turned into a giant mass in his stomach removed. However, after surgery, maybe once or twice a week he will have these coughing fits where he, well, farts a ton for maybe ten seconds and then starts to sound like he's choking, sticking his neck out, staring at nothing, all of that. It's frightening (for me, mostly, but I think it scares him too) and I don't know what to do; my vet and my parents said it's just him retching because he has had vomiting problems before. I don't think that this is normal to be happening so often with nothing coming up. Can somebody please, please give me some idea of what is happening or whether I should go to the vet or not? I'm really frightened for him.

Also, those wet throat noises that are happening after the wheezing happen for a few minutes after the wheezing stops.

Ask the vet about asthma. My cat does this and she's got seasonal allergies that lead to asthma.  She gets a methylprednisolone shot and is good for many months.  (It's time for another one as a matter of fact.)

As for the gas, that's usually a sign of either intestinal parasites or food that doesn't quite agree with your kitty's system.
