Hi!  My 14 year old cat was diagnosed with megacolon.  She hasn't had a bowel movement in about 2 weeks.  She was vomiting but the vet gave her an anti-vomiting shot and that helped.  Her anal glands were swollen so she had them squeezed and all the junk removed and also had an enema and whatever feces the vet could reach was removed.  Her large intestine is enlarged and most likely still filled with feces.  She's now taking Cisapride, but so far, no luck.  She eats very little (wet food) and doesn't seem to drink as much as she used to.  I've read where some people give Miralax.  Would that be something worth trying?  The vet didn't give us much hope, other than trying Cisapride.

Miralax has helped some kittes.  I hesitate to suggest it without asking your vet so I would ask him/her first.  My kitty has IBD with a tendency toward constipation.  Chronic constipation can go into Megacolon.  I asked my vet about fiber.  She told me that once a kitty goes into Megacolon it is best to get as much fiber out of the diet as possible.

If you want to start Miralax it needs to be started right after an enema.  It only works on stool now being formed.  If she is impacted again it would make things worse because there would be more backed up behind the impaction.

First you need to rule out that her bowels are not impacted.  If so, she will need an enema to get her cleaned out.  If she's constipated, she's not going to eat because there's nowhere for it to go and she's backed up so she doesn't feel hungry.
