I know about my cats. I know about things we've been though. If I don't know I say so and then look for a way to get someone who does.  And we can't hand out medical advice aside from telling someone their cat needs to see a vet. A bit of emotional support goes a long way.
That's right, an emotion support goes a long way. At least they get the assurance and be calmer than panic

I try to look for the unanswered posts. I do not know if I can help, but at least I do try. It is only courteous and caring to do so...at least in my opinion.
I do as well, just to let the frantic pet parent know that he/she is welcome, that I'm so sorry she and her baby are going through that situation and tell them as much as I know or that someone will be along soon to help them.  We all know how much the incredible support here has meant to us, and I firmly believe in giving back.  I do the same thing on the Crossing the Bridge forum, particularly those posts that have no replies yet.  I sincerely hope that by creating this forum, Anne knows how many thousands of cats and owners she has helped. Information is power where our babies are concerned, and I have learned a tremendous amount since joining. And the most important thing we can do for new members is assure them that hey are not alone and that we understand the deep love they feel for their little fur bundles.

Some join when they have a medical emergency. Just helping them find help and letting them know someone seen their post and either helping them find a the right place to post or getting someone to help. Sometimes just a helping hand is priceless. And this is a great community. Anne should be proud.

I try to help as many members as I can, especially if they are grieving over the loss of a beloved pet. I often go to the Crossing The Bridge forum and try my best to reach out to a bereaved member. I try my best to offer words of comfort. Most of those posts have me in tears, as I can sympathize with how much they must be hurting. I wouldn't wish that heartbreaking pain on anyone. Losing a beloved cat or pet, who is family, is truly devastating.
I don't like to offer much advice regarding struggling newborn kittens, or trying to help feral cats, as I really don't have experience with that. I would never want to offer the wrong advice, and then something happened. I leave those cases to more knowledgeable people on this site, and there are plenty of them. As others have said, this site is great. I feel like part of a huge family, and that warms my heart.

I know we make a difference as a community and I'm proud that TCS has always clearly stood for good cat care & cat welfare, including being pro-spay/neuter and anti-declaw. It's part of our mission statement which is posted here. The credit goes not to me personally but to you, the members who make this community what it is and nothing shows that community spirit more than the replies to this thread.

As for running the site, there's no way I could have done any of this on my own. Not a chance. The credit for that goes to the team members, moderators, advisors and mentors, all of whom do so much (a lot of of it "behind the scenes") to keep TCS going.

TCS is currently the #1 cat care site in the world with more than a million distinct visitors each month. For everyone asking a question, there are literally hundreds who end up reading the answers. Some threads end up getting hundreds of thousands of views (some millions!) That means the information that gets shared, the support, the care, the commitment for cats and for good cat care, get amplified and affect the lives of cats around the world. Which for me is a really cool thing to think about! It keeps me motivated to keep working on TCS every single day!

And since we're on the topic of how awesome this site is and how we all help each other, the one thing I'd love to see happen more is social media shares, so if you're on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. and you see an article or thread you think other cat lovers should know about, please do use the social media icons that are at the top of every page and share the love. Thank you!

I agree that just replying helps, emotional support and just knowing someone is listening and cares goes a long way. For all of you that say they don't have the knowledge to reply, your experience by having  a cat  is invaluable. You may have answers that you don't even know you have just by living with a cat. Every cat is an individual and responds differently to different situations. Just make sure they know that the advise you are giving is your own personal experience and that a vet is still the best way to go. Try to remember that many of them come to us because they literally can't afford a vet, if it's a choice between feeding your baby or keeping your home and a vet visit, they have no choice. This is where we can help by acting on our own experiences, not to diagnose, we can't do that, but to see if anyone has gone through the same thing, to see if a vet is needed, sometimes there is no choice but to bring them in. A lot of people are barely hanging on now days, and I still applaud them for saving a life and giving a cat a home and a family, even if they can barely afford it.  I often advise to call a vet, and at least talk to the desk, they know a lot too just by being exposed to so much. Also remember that taking a video of your cat at home in familiar surroundings, acting strange, being different, doing something odd, and showing it to the vet is worth a thousand words. As we all know, cats are very good at hiding illnesses and will NEVER do it in front of a vet.

Also, remember the Crossing the Bridge forum, It is then that these people need our support so much, we'll all need it sooner or later. I know it makes you sad , and you don't want to think about it, but these are people that are hurting so much and a simple I'm sorry would go a long way to help them on the healing path. I cry with each and everyone of them, to lose such a loved little soul who just wants to love us and have us love them in return is a wound to the heart that takes so very long to heal.  You can help others a lot more than you think!

I wanted to thank you for your replies in the Crossing the Bridge. For some reason it's simply become too emotional to respond right now. Your replies are always so heartfelt.

I actually go to Unanswered Threads first.  I remember how I felt when someone answered me in a time of confusion.

Now I have a tool to offer the new posters in the event I can't answer.  Sometimes I would answer to boost the thread to be noticed and answered by more experienced members who could actually give good advice.

Hope everyone is well...

Thank you very much for TCS Anne. People on here are great and it is a wonderful place for cat lovers. I am somewhat new to feral cats but very familiar with cats in general. I will share what I can from my experience in return for the support and information I have received from TCS.

Keep up the good work everyone, the world needs more people like us.

This is a lovely site Anne, as Shane said keep up the good work.

Just a note that the unanswered option doesn't appear on the mobile version so those of us who mostly use phones and tablets wouldn't know.

Hi terestrife, hitting new post will not get you to the unanswered page.

Here's how it goes :

For those on mobile app, scroll all the way down to the end. You'll see FAQ ~ Support ........
Below that you'll see a rectangular box that says Mobile | Desktop
Click on Desktopit'll bring you to the forum page. Right on top, tap Forums and the first line you'll see New Posts | Hot | Unanswered | I've Posted.
This is where Unanswered is.

On iPad, just use Safari and do the same on the home page to get to the unanswered page.
