My poor baby Stan has had a scab on his head for a few days, not sure what happened, but I'm assuming he scratched to hard from having fleas and scratched his head to hard. He does like to play with other cats so I'm afraid they may have accidentally got his head. Anyways, the scab came off and I've cleaned the wound with water and applied pressure for a few minutes with a napkin to try and keep it from bleeding and forming another big scab that he will scrape off again. Does anyone have advice on what I should do for him? I know a vet would be the best choice, but because they are so expensive I usually leave that as a last resort. Thanks everyone !

Do you have any soft microfiber type washcloths? Keep it clean, you can also call the vet and ask about Neosporin. Its not safe for them to ingest. I was advised from my vet-apply it with a qtip=hold the cat in my lap for 10 minutes-keep them from licking=wipe off excess. She said whatever gets absorbed into the wound will do the trick. But I would rather you ask your vet first. Make sure it has nothing else in it. The Neosporin with pain reliever I think is not recommended for pets at all-but I would ask the vet,

all you can do at this point-flush the wound out and make sure no dirt/food/dust etc gets into it. Most cats wounds heal surprisingly quick.

Do you have a regular vet? I often email my vet with questions and send photos.

I hope things get better for you.

Are your kitties spay/neutered? This will help stop the fighting if they are not speutered. We can help you locate a low cost clinic if you need help.

Welcome to TCS and hope you stick around to talk about your babies!
