Enzo is 9 and neutered. And the love of my life so bear with me with the questions and paranoia :)

About a year ago I was told he likely had IBD. He vomited a few times a day for about a week straight (no diet change, no diarrhea). They took X-rays and I took him for an ultrasound, after which they gave the IBD diagnosis.

Since then, he has been on a limited ingredient diet (Merrick, Turkey) and has had no further issues with vomiting.

A few months ago I noticed a small bald spot on his belly but figured the hair just may have not grown in from when they shaved his belly for the ultrasound. However, it has gotten larger. It is now about 1.5" long. It is smooth and pink with no bumps, redness, or scabs. It does not phase him at all when I touch it.

The thing that is throwing me for a loop is the fact that he is not itching or scratching anywhere, let alone on his belly, which would seem to rule out any allergies, fleas, or ringworm. He is not over grooming unless he is only doing it in the middle of the night.

He has an outdoor cat enclosure. He isn't is contact with any other cats or dogs.

His eating habits haven't changed. I haven't noticed if he's been drinking more, but his urine output hasn't really changed either. He activity level and mood are normal.

I have an appointment to take him to the vet on Wednesday and had already planned on asking for full blood work and a urinalysis. But until then, I was hoping I could find a few fellow cat lovers to bring me some solace.

When I googled "hair loss causes in cats" the overwhelming answer outside of fleas and allergies was hyperthyroidism. Now I am worried that the original diagnosis of IBD was incorrect since vomiting can also be attributed to hyperthyroidism.

Can anyone shed more light on their experiences with the symptoms of cats who have hyperthyroidism? Also, does anyone has any clue what could be the cause of the bald spot if indeed it is not hyperthyroidism?

Thank you so much for and advice or help!

I have noticed when we clip our rag doll on the lower belly close to his per per he has a smooth round spot probably the size of a dime. Like you I wondered if I just missed this all this time. It's no bigger and appears ok so I just figured maybe it's just a normal thing for him. Please let me know what the vet says

I'm worried because it's grown in size. It was very small when I first noticed it and it is much larger now which is why I don't think I can attribute it to the shaving of his belly with the ultrasound. He has never been clipped except for the ultrasound. I wouldn't be so worried if it had remained the same but there's just no way it was because of the shaving now that it has grown larger.

Could it be ringworm? I am discovering through this forum that it is pretty common, especially in cats exposed to the outside.

I guess it's certainly possible, but from everything I've read it's usually transmitted animal to animal (he is always in his enclosure so he doesn't come into contact with either. And I read that the bald spot wouldn't be smooth and pink but more scabby or red. It's definitely something I'll bring up to the vet.

My girl grooms all her hair off down there! She seems fine in every other respect! It could be something in the food! I only feed grain free canned as she used to vomit, now never. I have ever seen a flea and she is treated with cat revolution drops monthly.
