Hi our cat which is about 18 months old had gotten into some day Lillies and had Creatine levels off the chart, in Canada it measured about 1200 we took her to the Emergency in our area and they kept her for about 3 days with an iv in her arm to flush the kidneys, her Creatine levels dropped down to 212 and bun was 19.   We now have her at home and am still taking her into our vet to get sub cutaneous fluid every second day of 100 mm.  Her Creatine level has now dropped down to 198 but her bun has risen to 21.  Would she still be in the acute stage or has it now gone Chronic?  Is there any advice that you can give to help our kitty.

Thanks

How long has it been?    There is probably damage to her kidneys it is just a matter of how much.  If it is chronic you can give subqs at home.

She got into the lillies about a month ago and seemed strange so we took her to our vet and he took some blood levels and they were off the chart.

How long was it between her eating the lilies and getting to the vet, and how much did she eat? I'm guessing that would determine the severity of the long-term effects.

Poor baby. And yes, you can absolutely do this at home. Will be not only cheaper, but easier on your kitty because you won't be having to take her out every other day. How are her phosphorus levels? And is she eating ok?

She is eating great, about 1 1/2 tins a day of Friskies shredded with gravey so she get a lot of fluid.  She also takes a supplement that the Vet gave us with Calcium Carbonate in it so it is a phosphorus binder.  Her phosphorus level was 1.7 Canadian measurement.  I know maybe Friskies is not the best but we want her to eat...By the way she loves the car ride to the Vet and they don't charge us for the Subcue.

WOW you are super lucky to have a vet that doesn't charge for subqs, AND having a cat that likes the ride!!!!

I wouldn't worry about what you're feeding her. She's eating, that's the most important thing. If she likes Friskies, then let her eat Friskies.

Thanks, we think we are too and don't want to lose her, we think maybe she got some pollen on her and then she licked herself.

That is definitely possible. When Sara went into acute renal failure (due to a kidney infection we found out) just months after losing another cat to the same thing, my vet was worried about it being environmental. Questioned me again if we had lilies. He knew of course lilies were bad, but he learned that day from another vet that just having the pollen drift from one part of the house (say, a room they don't go in) and onto the cat, then having them lick it, can do that. I won't even touch lilies now or even bring them in my car.

Lilies are one of my favorite flowers especially callas lilies.  I gave them up when I got my first cat though, there just is no safe way to have them with cats in the home.

Me too. I didn't used to know lilies were so dangerous to cats, maybe 10 years ago. I used to have them in the house from time and time, and luckily, my elder cat just never went near them. I had such a cold chill run down my spine when I finally found out how poisonous they are to cats and thought of all the times I'd had them in the middle of the living room!

It's one of those things that I wish got mentioned more, right alongside the basics like feeding and litter advice for newbie cat owners. Maybe it does now, but I didn't know in the 90's and early 2000's.

Just an update....our kitty (skilly) is acting just like she used to.  Playing all the time and climbing under the covers when we are in bed to lay beside us.  I sure hope this works, we now are directed to bring her in every three days now and they will wean her off of the water gradually.  It seems the Vet gave us a binder (Pronefra) which has 200 mg of Calcium carbonate in it to give her which after doing some reading up on the product and else ware binds the Phosphorus which is the problem with Kidney disease.

Thanks for all your good wishes for her....I hope all this works.

Well here is another update, we just had kitty go for 4 days between subq and she had a blood test this morning and the results show her in the normal range of 195 (Creatine) but she is about the same in the bun (22.5) which is high.

We are not sure what to do now as kitty was playing with so much energy this morning before we took her in to get the subq and the blood, she is back to doing all the things she used to do.  Climbing under the sheets which she stopped doing when this all started.  She now is somewhat depressed and is not playing anymore...She hates going in for the Subq and resists as much as possible (She does enjoy the car ride though).

The Vet says we should bring her in every three days for the subq and in 10 days get another blood test.  We hate to have her go through that and hope you have some advice for us.

Thanks
