A little over a week ago, I opened my door and there was a box with a little kitten wrapped up inside ! I wasn't going to keep it at first because I wasn't sure how my current (11 yr old) cat would react. After thinking about it, and after taking her to the vet to make sure she was healthy, we decided to keep her ! My cat seems to enjoy her, most the time. The first 2 days she used her litter box , and she still does but she has peed in a few different spots on the carpet. I can't figure out why! She knows where her box is, and whenever she try's to potty on the carpet, she starts to cry? Like she's warning me. So I then have to pick her up and hurry her to her box. But then sometimes she goes on her own? I can't figure it out! Both cats have their own litter box. Can anyone help me? My fiancé says if she doesn't learn soon we have to get rid of her! I love her Help me :)

She's way too young to have full run of the house. When she has to pee or poop, she has to go right then and she's not going to remember to look for a litter box. She's a very little baby and your boyfriend is going to have to be patient!

For now, move her to one room with multiple litter box options for her. These can be baking sheets or cardboard boxes that are low to the ground. Make sure this room is kitten proofed.

What are you feeding her?

I was feeding her Iams kitten food but her poop was runny and she was getting it al over her legs (lol) we were having to clean her legs off after every poop , we tried giving her what my other cat eats, which is a Rachael Ray cat food , and now her poop seems normal

Yes, she's just way too young to even leave her mother, poor little thing. So you'll have to be her mother for a while :D. She's barely old enough to know when she has to go potty (their mothers take care of it until they're 3 or 4 weeks old) so when the feeling comes up, she has to go NOW! So unless she's very close to the litterbox, she just won't make it in time. To create a strong habit of using the litterbox, it's best to keep her confined when you can't watch her. A large rabbit cage (no wire bottom) or dog crate, or a small room like a bathroom or laundry room, would work. Something where she'll always be close to the litterbox and doesn't have any confusing floor textures like carpet.

She should be mostly getting wet food at this age. Fancy Feast kitten is usually well tolerated. I haven't had much success with Iams :/. If she's able to eat kibble, you can provide kibble all the time, but also give 2-3 meals a day of canned food.

If she's that young, and it seems she is, go to Walmart or a pet store and buy a kitten bottle and a can of powdered kitten formula (KMR) by PetAg.

Give the baby a bottle every 4 hours around the clock. She will benefit greatly from the suckling as well as the vitamins and minerals she needs.

And yes, I agree, your boyfriend needs to be patient. Tiny kittens are not fully potty trained for a few weeks. She'll get there though.

Enjoy her as the precious gift that she is! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
