My random question of the day. :lol3:

When I was growing up, you wore a slip, that's all there was to it.

This is the third year in a row of weddings for my family, which means dresses for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners and weddings. I hate wearing a dress/skirt. The dresses I have worn up until this point have been lined or thicker, but the one for Sunday is questionable and I may have to go looking for a slip although I could probably get away with out it. .

Does anyone still wear one? :dk: I know pantyhose in the summer is passe now.

My mother wears a slip every day - even under the dress she wears to muck out the pony in :lol3: I wear slips/half slips with some of my skirts and dresses - either because they're too thin on their own, or to keep them from clinging to and getting caught in my legs. (It's also a great way to make a summer skirt warm enough for autumn, especially when paired with leggings in place of hose ;) ).

umm...I have no clue. Mom never EVER wore dresses. I never wore them growing up except for prom. I didn't wear a slip. Just underwear and pantyhose. I never EVER liked my skin touching and chaffing when I walk so I NEVER wear dresses. Not to mention my legs are twice as big as most peoples. I will stick to slacks or shorts. I never hung out with girly girl type girls so I have never been educated in proper etiquette for dressing. I always wore jeans and now kahkis,. I always dress comfortable like those folks who do artwork or gardening-I need to have no restriction in my clothing and nothing tight or pulling when I bend down or step up on something. I guess a gardeners style is my dress..linen shirt with linen pants or cotton pants. I envy those who can wear heels and dresses. If they made shoes wide enough for these elephant legs then maybe I would try it. sorry I don't have the answer to your question.

Only if my dress/skirt is a thin or very light-colored fabric (basically if there's a chance you'd be able to see my underwear through the clothing if I didn't wear a slip) - otherwise, they don't really serve much purpose?

I have a couple half-slips and have worn them when my dress was really sheer. Other than that, nope.

When I wear a dress (try not to do it too often :lol3:) I wear a split slip because I don't like my legs to touch. Which doesn't help a lot with thin fabrics because it still looks like you're not wearing a slip :/. But it also keeps the skirt from sticking to my undies. Which I think might have been the original purpose to a slip.

I don't think so for the most part. I don't wear dresses for the most part. I think that these days if someone is going to wear something under a dress or skirt, it's more likely to be Spanx than a slip.

DD's dress for her HS graduation was white and I did get her a slip but she refused to wear it. The dress was lined so it wasn't a big deal.

Slips are more old school these days

A slip will make it hang/lie better, especially if it's a clingy fabric. It'll hide the lines of your underwear too. On the other hand, on a hot day you'll definitely be cooler without a slip. I don't think there is a 'right' or 'wrong' here - go with however you're most comfortable :)

Oh that is pretty. Very tropical. That dress requires a pina colada in hand and a gorgeous young cabana boy nearby to fetch you another- not a slip!!

I own a couple slips "just in case" but I probably haven't worn them in 10 years. I was never a fan - too much adjusting required.

I usually wear the Spanx that are like long shorts. They go from right under my bra, to 5" above my knee. I prefer those because they don't move at all, and they are a little more modest while sitting, or getting into a car. The only annoying thing is trying to pull the dress up and those down to go to the bathroom. It's like a magic trick.

 you guys are funny!

I don't think u need a slip unless its either pink or black. Do you wear panty hose? that should hide the underwear lines I would think. Its a bright and pretty pattern-honestly I don't think anyone will notice. I wear the wrong socks all the time to see if anyone will say anything=nope. Noone is going to say to you hey wheres the slip? It is fine just the way it is.

I don't do spanex. I couldn't get it over my legs even if I bought the biggest size, then it looks like sausage on my thighs. I tried one on once at macys. Very unflattering. If I didn't have drumstick legs maybe I could have pulled it off. And I HATE tight material. Hats off to those who wear it.

No slip for that dress. Pretty dress, BTW! I like it! But no slip.

What you could do, if you're worried? Put the dress on and walk outside....see if Aaron notices any see-through or anything like that. Or walk in front of your window and check it out that way. Spread your legs.........OK, that doesn't sound very good! But you know what I mean!

I really don't think a slip would be necessary. And I really like the dress.

I haven't worn a slip in ages!  I think you'll be fine without one for that dress.

The last time I had to wear a dress i wore spanx under it.  Yeah it looked better; but it was June and the wedding was in a 200 year old chapel and the recption was in an actual barn.  H.O.T.
I don't wear dresses very often.  If it hadn't been a family member's wedding I wouldn't have then either!

It has been ages since I have even worn a dress.  Out of curiosity I went on Macy's website and looked.  The only thing they had was the Spanx control slips.  They aren't cheap either, they are $60 to $85.  I think that dress is fine without one.

Good luck with your upcoming wedding events!  Like you I have several weddings coming up and always question whether or not I need a slip.  I don't particularly like them but decide after trying on the dress with or without one.  If the dress has a lining I almost never wear a slip.
