Oh, I am hurting for you both. If her breathing is labored she is dying. She is also suffering.

No need to offer any more fluids. At this point it makes things worse.

If you can, in spite of the leakage, just smear on some neosporin. God bless her, just put it on her little bottom and let her be.

Hold her in a towel, close to your chest, and comfort her. She will pass tonight.

No need to take her to the vet if she is over the Rainbow Bridge. A proper burial will suffice. I suspect the kitten has bigger problems than her bottom.

Thank you for caring for her. Please fill us in on what happens. I don't expect her to last much longer.

She's breathing at 60 RPM, which I understand is twenty respirations higher than the preferable range. She's sleeping soundly, occasionally stretches or shifts. she got up earlier to throw up again about three times, then went back to sleep. Poor baby. All I can hope for is that she will feel relief soon.

I'm really sorry. We had a kitten at the shelter like this and she passed away as her body just couldn't take it, either.  Hugs to you.

There is a chance she may not pass. If she does not, then there is hope! If she does not pass, her body is actually coping. She still has a chance. Let's see what Mother Nature dictates.

It's just always ten times worse when it's a kitten, isn't it? Bless their little souls.

That's the main reason I haven't rushed her off to get her euthanized. I'm hoping her body is just coping and she'll get through this okay. But with how quickly she's declining, I sincerely doubt that. I think I'm coming to terms with it either way, though. Thank you for your compassion and help throughout this entire process. It helps a lot, especially since it seems like the people I speak to on a daily basis don't understand the pain I'm going through right now.

Believe me, I understand. Many of us on this site do. Hang in there. Just continue comforting the baby.

Scottie is still alive. She fell off the bed after I had nodded off but other than that no new incidents. No more vomiting. Seems to be slightly more active. Attempts to walk around, etc. we're taking her to the vet in an hour.

I hope things end up ok for you and the little one. Regardless though you have/are doing everything you can remember that no matter what.

Thank everyone for your support. The vet has her now. Apparently she's still very backed up. They're giving her an IV for fluids. If the pain becomes too much we will euthanize her. I've already come to terms with it. I need to talk to them about donating her body to science and if it's possible. Never know when aspiring vets need a Manx Syndrome kitten to learn. May help others like her.

Final update: Scottie had to be euthanized. She was in too much pain. Thank everyone for your love and support. Once this heals, we will adopt another kitten. Our vet deals with the local shelter quite a bit. (We may opt for an older cat though. Who knows?)

I'm so sorry. Poor Scottie. She tried so hard. And you did everything you could. I'm shocked she made it this far really. RIP little one. She is no longer in pain. [emoji]128062[/emoji]

I think you are doing a wonderful thing by helping shelter cats, and your vet sounds very committed to helping as well. It's refreshing to know this. Have a blessed day! [emoji]127752[/emoji]

On behalf of The Cat Site Moderating Team, we are sorry for your loss of Scottie. You might wish to post a memorial thread in our Crossing The Bridge Forum.
