Pro vs Pre biotic

Hi all!

I am wondering what is the difference between Prebiotics and Probiotics?? 

Does anyone know?  

It just seems very confusing..at least to my mind. 

And how do they work different from each other.

Probiotics are living friendly bacteria and yeasts that live in the digestive tract. Taking probiotics (either through fermented food or as a supplement) can help restore and balance intestinal microflora. 

Prebiotics are a type of fiber and is food for probiotics. Taking them helps some of the good bacteria in the intestines flourish, thus improving overall gut health.

How exactly pre- & pro- biotics work is not fully understood even in humans. There is, I believe, some research about positive effect of probiotics in cats.
