Saw a cat in my garden on my girl 5th may. Vet said likely 4 kittens. By my counting she's due now? She's not wanting to try and leave the house. Appetite today has really slowed from constantly pestering for food. Nipples showing slight white (milk comming in?)tonight she's just laying quiet not wanting any attention yet I keep reading they get more affectionate right before delivery? There's been a little licking of genitals over last 18 hours but not much. So apologies for long thread but should I be setting my alarm from tonight to get up and check her, any ideas how much longer before labour begins? Thankyou

Welcome!

By my count she's 62-63 days pregnant, and the average gestation is 65-68 days. With her milk coming in, she's due any day now. You might want to check her during the night now, as it could be anytime.

Do you have a nest set up for her?

Oh, and do not let her outside for any reason if she wants to go. Give her a litter pan inside.

Hi thanks. Nests everywhere which she ignores she keeps settling on rug by sofa. Litter tray I put out she's using that fine. She's very sleepy tonight rather than playful so I've dimmed lights and left her quiet. Not eaten anymore she seems very content so I guess just stay close to home for next few days. Any other signs I can watch out for?

I also suggest that you remove her collar now, and for the next few weeks. The kittens will be climbing on her and could get a front or back paw stuck.

She will probably choose a nest at the last minute.

Eventually, you'll see ripples or tightening and loosening movements in her sides when contractions begin.

Keep us posted. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Some cats do try to nest outside. She can't go outside at all until the kittens are delivered and weaned. Make sure you are very careful about that!

It sounds like she's getting close. You may want to get some kitten supplies. We recommend a small scale so you can weigh the kittens daily, a needleless syringe, and powdered kmr (PetAg is a good brand; avoid Hartz) in case you need to supplement.
