OOPS!  I'm later than I meant to be for my first question of the day, but I made it!

I know that a lot of us are avid readers.  Here's my question, keep or swap?  Do you read once and done, or do you reread?

I collect certain authors and series, and I will read my way through my entire collection as much as twice a year.  Only occasionally do I end up with a book I would only read once.

I have no room to store books, so I usually borrow books from my sister or download some on my tablet to read

I collect. I find that I prefer to read nonstop a particular author. I don't like the kindle. I prefer paperback and if I can find it large print paperbacks. Right now I am reading all of Catherine Andersons novels she wrote in the past 15 years. I found them at the fleamarket and I have read one here and there but I figured I would try them all at once. I have not been disappointed. I can read till blue in the face.

Welcome, Mamanyt1953, to the QoTD!

It depends on who the author is. I collect Stephen King and Clive Cussler. That's pretty much it. I'm working on buying the Outlander series, even though I've read them all several times.

I used to buy and keep Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels until they got so stupid, I can't even read them anymore (Joe or Ranger? At this point, who cares??)

I am an avid reader. For the most part, I get my ebooks from BookBub (to store on my Nook/iPad) and our public library. It is rare that I buy any books anymore, other than the above-mentioned writers.

Oh, and cookbooks. I just love cookbooks.

I'm done buying "real" books. They take up too much room and gather dust. DH collected Stephen King novels. He has a lot of them. DD wants them. I am not a fan so she's welcome to them. I will hold onto them until she moves out on her own and then she will take them- bookshelf and all. I am slowly getting rid of regular books and only buy ebooks now unless it is something I REALLY want and it is not available in ebook form.

I do re-read books if I really like them.

@Winchester  I got through books 1-3 of Outlander and I am done. Book 1 was painful until she went back in time. Frank got on my nerves so bad that I found myself wishing that someone would throw him off a building. Book 2 was slightly better. Book 3 was downright painful. I got through it but I could not wait for it to be over. The more I got to know Claire and Jamie the more I liked Captain Jonathan Randall.

I have a kindle and now tend to read books on that.  I do not have much time to read anymore because my job wears me out now. When I had time to read actual books I had certain authors I would collect.  I would bring books to my husband's elderly aunt and my grandmother who were in nursing homes.  They have since passed away. I really should check with the assisted living facility near my work to see if they would take donations since I still have more books than space to put them.

@Winchester   I'm a diehard SK fan as well.  I've read everything he has put out, although I will admit to having stopped mid-way in a couple that I just couldn't get into!  I am just now getting around to reading his last short story compilation "The Bazaar of Bad Dreams".  I'm digging through it now.  I also have a huge collection of cookbooks--my downfall is that I discover maybe one or two out of each book that I like.  I guess my favorites are two from years ago the phone company (South Central Bell at the time) sold--they are called Dining with Pioneers volumes I & II.

I read and re-read favorites often, especially Stephen King.  I love" 'Salems Lot" and "Duma Key"...probably my favorites.  I'm also a huge fan of rock & roll autobiographies/biographies.  I have re-read some of those that I have as well.

I work for a huge publishing distributor/publishing company--so I get a head's up on new things all the time.  I still return to reading my favorites.  I love books--what we call pBooks around here at work, actual print books, but my Kindle is my go-to these days.  Lord knows how much money I've spent buying eBooks that I already have in print version onto the Kindle so they are more easily transportable and accessible.  I use my Kindle app on my phone a lot when I find myself sitting waiting in places, or sometimes during my lunch.

I fall asleep every single night reading!  I read every chance I get.

I used to collect hard covers of fav authors.  Tom Robbins, Anne Rice and John Irving are 3 that come immediately to mind where I just HAD to have the physical book.  Oh and lots of art books too. No point buying an art book which isn't on beautiful glossy paper.

Having said that, I finally broke down and bought a Kindle about a year ago for 2 reasons.  First, I was finding a book too difficult to carry with me during my (very) long commute every day.  And, my eyes would tire from reading them quickly.  The second main reason is we have very little room in our home to display books, much as we both love them.  I have boxes of them in the attic.  I wouldn't dream of getting rid of them, but there they linger.

I haven't purchased more than a few physical books since I got the Kindle - which I love way more than I ever thought I would.  I did buy a book written by a blogger I follow, only because Cocoabean's photo was included in it. Other than that, I think there were some others Kindle doesn't have available yet.  Oh wait then there was Jenny Lawson's books (The Bloggess, for those who aren't familiar with her name) because they were signed editions.

I do re-read many books so the Kindle is a bit problematic; it would mean I'd have to re-purchase my favorites unless they were on sale at such a low price it made it worthwhile (one of Jenny Lawson's was on sale for one day only for like $1.99 so I grabbed that one). If I'm dying to read something I own already which is packed away, my fiance has always been good about heading up there to find the box it's in.

Cookbooks are probably the only genre which I'd still only buy hardcovers. The Kindle is a black and white one, and the few cookbooks I purchased for it just didn't have the same impact for me, although, made it easier to follow a recipe since there's no paper to damage by spills!

I would share with Tom (Kindle allows sharing w/family), but we have very different interests in books for the most part.

@sivyaleah   I still have a collection of Anne Rice books.  I used to go buy them as soon as they were available.  I don't know what to even do with them now, they are in a pile in the spare bedroom floor with a ton of other books that I don't have room for.  I am out of bookshelf room in the house, and no where really that I want to add another.

I used to sell used books on eBay, but it has gotten so nitpicky and complicated I just can't. even. deal.  Plus the whole thing with the sales tax now.  Just makes me not want to bother.

You can sell stuff through Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200306550&tag=&tag=thecatsite

I thought about doing that.  Is it easier than eBay?
I have a textbook of DD's for sale on Amazon. I added that to see if there would be any bites. Nada. Then again, it's a college textbook and people prefer to rent them nowadays.

I can't see it being harder than Ebay. They used to be great and easy. Now they are a pain in the rear. Plus Amazon's customer service is always available through online chat or phone if you need help

I totally agree!  I used to love Ebay.  Now it is just not worth it for something that is only a few bucks :(  I set up a seller's account not long ago, think I'll throw one out there to see what happens!

I love to read and reread many of my books.  I have a kindle (courtesy of DH) with some books on it but prefer printed books.  Sometimes I will read a book and regret spending the money so I've started going to the half price book store.  I think it's sad that many books have not been put in ebook format.  I like Dorothy Gilman's  Mrs Polifax series and seem to be missing some since we moved.

really prefer real books, but I do not have the storage space for them. I tried reading them and just giving them away, but it got to be too much.

Years ago, I bought a kindle because it was more convenient on my train commute to work. I have abut a hundred books in my library--most of them read, but about 15 not read.

I can only read the kindle for so long, and then my eyes goes batty. With books, it does seem easier. I also like that you can refer back to different areas in the book, for reference; that is almost impossible to do with a kindle, unless you highlight certain areas.

I love the feel of a real book, and the smell...

The kindle always reminds me of Star Trek...I guess I am just a bit bonkers...

I love reading, but read slowly and thoroughly. I also never read the same book twice. Therefore buying real books became a waste of money.  So I started borrowing books from friends and co-workers, which worked well.

Then I bought a Kobo e-reader, which is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's light and easy to carry around. You can make the font any size you want.  It even has a backlight for reading in low light.

Now I borrow e-books from the library all the time. The only problem is after 21 days, they expire. Most books I manage to read in 21 days.  Even the first 4 in the Outlander series.

However, I'm now reading the 5th book, which has over 1300 pages and I'm only 200+ pages in and I only have 11 days left to finish it.  That's 100 pages a day!  If I don't finish it, I get back at the end of the line to borrow again and there are currently 6 people on hold.  I really should be reading now, not hanging out on the The Cat Site!

great question! and so glad you'll be doing wednesday's QotD!

i read almost exclusively via the kindle app on my computer. i do have a kindle reader, which is mainly used when there's a power outage. i have hundreds of books on my kindle reader, though even if i delete them from the device i can still re-download them from my amazon account (no need to buy them again).

it really depends on the book (ebook) whether i'll read it more than once. though after a while and having read other books, i might very well reread a book i'd enjoyed before.

I love going to charity shops ( Rspca,Pdsa, cats protection) and buying books. In one shop all books are a £1 so a real bargain. No way am I going to Waterstones or Whsmith and paying £8 for a book. Once ive read my books I always take them back to the charity shop I originally got them from so that they can be sold again. World of books are also very good and again its proceeds go to charity so everyones a winner
