Hi my name is Jenna I have a 15 week kitten named Dahlia. For the last few weeks she has had loose stool with blood in it. I took her to the vet and he did a stool sample test which came back that she had roundworms. He gave her de wormer for the 2nd time this was on Wednesday, he said if there was no improvement by Tuesday to call back so today I called back and he gave me metron 100 mg that I am to give her 2x a day for 5 days. She is totally fine otherwise, she eats she drinks and she plays like a maniac. So I guess my question is when can I expect this metron liquid 100mg to take effect. I can't handle the little poop smears on everything. I try to clean her everytime she goes and I home to clean her lil butt but it's getting ridiculous. I just want her to be healthy.

Hi there and welcome!

Often times parasites won't show up on a fecal test, so the vet was good for assuming it's likely the cause, probably coccidia, not uncommon at all in kittens.

However, metronidazole is slow-ish to work, if it even does work.

My go to is definitely ponazuril, you might ask him for this, it's once a day for several days and is broader spectrum so it kills many parasites.

Liquid gold really!
