My female cat, about 6 yrs old, had a weird time of it last night. She was chewing on her front paws and her back paws as if she had syrup or sap on them. I checked and they were totally clean. At the same time she would shake her paws, sometimes two at a time, very quickly as when they do when their paws are wet. Ratta-tat-tat! She was declawed (BEFORE I adopted her!!) and I was suspecting some leftover nerve pain from that operation, which was at least 5 years ago. She let me gently hold a paw and brush the top with a soft brush but then she wanted nothing to do with me. She ran to sleep in a strange place. This morning she was on my bed and seemed pretty normal.  I am worried about her having a stroke, for lack of a better term. Something neurological?  This is a very sensitive cat. When we have guests stay over, she is friendly but will poop in the living room the next morning.

Yes, she could very well be having nerve pain associated with the declaw. I suggest talking to your vet about this. They can take x-rays of her paws and check for arthritis or bone regrowth.

Gabapentin is a medication used to treat nerve pain. Again, something to talk to your vet about.
