Hi lovely people! On June 23rd I picked up my first foster kittens from the SPCA! Very excited to have them here, but have a concern and the SPCA is closed!!

I have 3 kittens and they're 6 weeks old now, and the past few days we've notice significant pot bellies on them. Their bellies are all ballooned and fairly hard to touch.. Google says over eating or worms. They have their kibble from the SPCA and I give them a tiny bit of wet food a day, and they were dewormed the day I brought them home and I have another dose which isn't until July 7th.

I'm not sure if I should be concerned! They all have it, and it's significant. I have 2 of my own resident cats in the house. They are all vaccinated and my 2 were recently dewormed as well. Any advice is appreciated!! Xo

Well-fed, growing kittens tend to have round bellies that they eventually outgrow.

It could be that their bellies will change after the second dose of worm medicine.

Do you suspect gas? If so, a couple drops of infant mylicon, which is simethicone, will help.

Are they pooping each day? How many times a day are they eating?

@sarthur2

Thanks for the quick reply! They have open access to their dry food, and are getting about the size of a loonie of wet food twice a day. I'm trying to keep their diet as close as it will be at the SPCA so they don't have any stomach upset when they go back for adoption.

They are definitely pooping each day - in fact they have 2 litter boxes in their room that they're in at night and have one dedicated to poop and one to pee now lol!

I never even thought of gas though. I've never cared for kittens this young and to be honest the SPCA didn't give me any information, so sometimes I'm winging it! Google has become my friend
