Hello, I stupidly tried to clean up a stray cat (not knowing it had mange). I got the mites on my clothes. I had a rash, little bumps all over. That's when I looked on the internet and realized it was mange. So now I have spread the mites to my four healthy cats. They don't have mange, the have just been exposed to the mites. I called my Vets office was told I should give my cats Revolution for 6 months. The problem is I am very poor and Revolution for four cats in very expensive. I have read that healthy cats don't usually get mange. I also was researching mange online and read about alternative treatments, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil and diatomaceous earth. The remedies were form people treating their cats who actually had mange. I don't know how reliable that information is. I trust my vet, I'm just wondering if although Revolution is the best way to go, if there might be alternatives, like the natural remedies. I have read that all cats get the mites, it's just when the population gets too high and the cats are unhealthy that it is a problem. but another web site said that it is highly contagious...  I hope someone here has some experience and can give me some sage advice.

ACV and "FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth" is your best bet. Important you get food grade DE though!

I forgot to mention, A daily vitamin is a great idea also "The Missing Link Ultimate Feline Formula" . Because their blood cells are fighting the paracites they need the vitamins.

Jesse,

How did you treat the cats? I have heard you can feed it to them to kill worms, but I also read that is unproven. And I read they should not breath it, so I was wondering how to treat them safely, so they don't inhale it. I ordered the food grade kind online.

Sorry I have been gone a while. If you are still wondering.

Never feed the cats DE! EVER! It can and will cause many issues with their natural digestion, including a possibility urine blockage and infection! Remember this is food grade for humans, not cats digestion and can cut up their insides like splinters! . If it is bad as I think you are wondering. 1 Tea spoon acv in their water daily is good. Also you can feed them a spoon full of plain yogurt. dewormer additive in water with acv is good too. If its skin roudworm, I say De rubbed into the affected area is good AFTER giving them a bath (I know how fun!) .The water after a bath will draw the worms closer out of the skin for oxygen and if you dry them and use DE . It will certainaly kill the worms and if you do the lattter I suggested along with a good kitty vitamin supplement, your kitty will be healthy and normal in no time. Bathe every 72 hours and reapply until the skin has no redness
