My cat Ozzy and I found eachother thanks to my girlfriend's aunt, who fed stray cats around. He was kind of territorial they said and asked if I wanted him. I met him, he bumped my forehead with his forehead and I took him home. After taking him to the vet for a checkup, shots, neutering and whatnot, he was healthy except for when he pushes his face near mine, he opens his mouth and I get drool on wherever he touches. I wanted to know if he's Bombay or part or just a domestic short hair. He has maybe one or two white hairs, but jet black, muscular build (my friends call him fat) and he has green/gold eyes. Pads are black too. My girlfriend thinks he's just a shorthair, but I've been watching videos and looking things up and think he's at least half Bombay. It's not a big deal, but I would like to know. He also acts like a dog i.e. always licking, greeting, allowing me to rub his tummy etc, follows me around (even to the bathroom), sleeps with me and always steals my spot sitting or on my bed. Any thoughts?

Everything is possible, but some is statistically more probable than other.   And there are very few Bombays, but quite a few of black cats, many of whom are good look alikes of Bombays.  So the money betting goes heavily on him as a pure domestic from times uncounted.   :)   Or at very least, no recent addition of Bombay, which would be a safe bet...   That said, I whom am from the Russian Blue world, I know of several exemples when pedigreed RB did disappeared went astray.  Its oftne during transports - the purebreds are oftne transported to Shows and Mating, no... And just one of them was found dead and buried (the finder buried her in her house garden together with her own late cats).  While two whom went astray from the summer cottage were both found  two months later,  healthy and in decently good shape although they must fend for themselves.  Of course, it was still the summer halfyear.

So there must be some pure bred RB living around, or at least, their offspring.    And thus, it may be alike with other breeds too.

If its very important for you, there are tests.  The test for Bombay should be very accurate as bombay are constructed on Burmanese cat.

OK, as there are so many beautiful black cats, some of them exact copies of a bombay, why to even bother to construct the Bombay breed?  And not from the moggies in question, but from the exotic burmanese?    I think it was because they could.   :)

Re your meeting. Him bumping his forehead with yours hints to me, you got down on all fours, and presented your head to bump, no?

Swell and nice!   Going down on their level is one of the tricks of the trade...

Semiferal toms are sometimes quite friendly with humans.  They may beat up the cat residents if they are territorial, but they are rather friendly with humans.  It is possible your tom was one of those.

When you were back home, was it long process to foster him, or was he at ease practically instantly?     If he was  almost instantly OK and at ease, this may hint he got dumped - perhaps when he began to be adultish,  or went astray.
