Hi guys,

Today  when i had my boy Jinx on my washroom counter top cleaning his ears, I noticed when i moved him, there was a small blood stain on the counter.  I took a look and noticed some fresh wet blood on his scrotum.  I examined it well and see no wound of any kind, but have no clue on what it would be from?

Any suggestions on what it could be from? He is 10 months old today and not fixed, but i don't think male cats bleed going thru puberty? Anyways I would go to vet, but since its Canada day nothing is open.

Thanks

He should go to the vet asap because it could be a urinary infection and that might be bloody urine.  The only other reason for blood to be on his scrotum is if another cat had bitten him.

Thanks for the quick reply.  He's definitely  never around other cats.  I will watch his urine till Saturday and bring him to the vet.   I just changed his litter with new stuff,  so i will keep a close eye till the vet.

Make very sure that he continues to be able to urinate.  If he becomes blocked, he will have to go to the emergency vet.

Is there a reason that you haven't neutered him?  You may want to do that before he starts spraying.

If that is bloody urine, the very best thing you can do is feed him a diet of all wet foods (canned) that are pate, and preferably grain free.  Start imediately because the extra water helps wash out any problem things in the bladder.  Tractor supply has good grain free turkey & giblets for 69 cents a can.   You want to feed him something tht is most  muscle meat (like when CHICKEN is thefirst ingredient, that means the muscle meat of chicken).  Feeding wet food instead of dry is very important for all cats but most important for male cats because it helps prevent urinary problems.  A diet high in muscle meat, moderate in fat and very low in carbohydrates is very good to prevent urinary crystals and stones.  Avoid foods with veggies and fruis in them, and legumes, i.e. pea protein, potatoe starch, sweet potatoes, carrots because they are high carbohydrate and not good for cats. If you cant get to a tractor supply, then Friskies pate, Sheba and Fancy Feast pate are all good.  You might mix in a little water with the first few cans if he has been on a dry food diet.  A dry food diet is only 8-10% moisture, whereas a wet food diet is 78% moisture, and a cat doesn't drink enough to get good hydration on a dry food diet.  You will save money in the long run using the wet food because your cat will be healthier.  If there is any more blood on his scrotum, see if you can collect it in an eye dropper to show the vet.
