So we adopted our cat and were told she wasn't pregnant. 6 weeks later-surprise! Four baby kittens. They are about 2 weeks old. Lily had her kittens under my son's bed and they're starting to crawl around on their own. I'm worried about when they start pottying--I need to move them to the bathroom where the litter box is. The last time I tried moving them Lily carried them right back under there. Should I try again? Is there any way to let her know it's ok for me to move them or make her feel better about it? I am planning to baby gate them in our third bathroom. There is a closet in there where the litter is. Should I put them inside the closet where she thinks they're more "hidden"?

Side note: YES I plan to get her spayed. She is 100% inside only in our home though, and has been since we got her. Apparently she was outside and inside at her previous home.

Yeah I'd say hide them in there so she feels they're more secure about where they are. Also deny her access to your son's room so she cant take them back. If she gave birth on a blanet take the blanket from there to the bathroom. I tried moving my last litter from one side of my bedroom to the other and that didnt work the first few trys lol x hope I've helped x

O oreolily

No, wait and move them into the bathroom when they are 3 weeks old!

They are still 100% dependent on mom, and will be until they are 5-6 weeks old.

They cannot regulate their own body temperatures until after 3 weeks.

Mama cat feels safe under the bed and needs to stay there for now. You can put blankets under that can be washed for them to nest upon.

At 3 weeks, a move into the bathroom will be fine. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

They will need their own litter boxes that are quite low to the ground and have only non-clumping litter as well.

Thanks! I will wait another week before moving. Ok, I was wondering how the litter box would work. So I guess I can use the box they're in for their litter, its very low on one side. So I need to purchase non clumping litter for them? I'm still trying to find a litter I like for Lily, I just bought the expensive Tidy Cats stuff and it's definitely clumping power. Thanks for the advice!

Lily has fleas (had them when we got her) I bought Advantage & shes had a dose last month & second one today. Theyre not going away! What all do I need to be doing? We have carpets & Im betting my vacuum isnt good enough. She has kittens now...what can I do for them? Any natural remedies would be great if effective!

Theres a spray you can get that you rub on your hands then on them, its designed to use on kittens and pups less then 8weeks old. I dont know what its called but I got it from my vets about £15 a can. So will prevent the kits being over run with fleas. I hate them so so so much:( :/

You have flea eggs hatching, and the Advantage only kills fleas, not eggs or larvae.

So you need to buy a can of house flea spray, and spray your carpets, wait a couple of hours, and vacuum. All of the bedding in the nest should be washed in hot water.

The kittens can be flea combed. If they are covered in fleas you can put a tiny drop of Advantage on the back of their necks.

You have to really be aggressive when you have an infestation.

I heard Lily moving the babies this morning, (she had to jump them over the baby gate! I found her in the babys room closet with only two of her babies, just relaxing & feeding. She had left one in their nest & I had to search for the last one-she had put it on the other side of the house under a couch! I was freaking out. Why would she split them up like that? Any ideas? The one she took across the house seems to be the most mobile & healthy. But no way did it crawl all the way there.

Meant to ask, should I shut her in the bathroom with litter & food & their box? They cant stay where they are.

Are you able to give her a nest in a closet in your bedroom? That would be ideal. Then you could close your bedroom door. If not, the bathroom will work. She really needs a dark, private place like a closet though.

Jumping the baby gate sounds dangerous. Glad the kittens were not harmed. It's not easy for moms to carry their babies. She probably had plans to either retrieve the other one, or move the rest under the couch when she had time.

I had her in the dark closet in the bathroom. She took 2 kittens to another closet, so I guess try moving them back to bathroom? I hate to shut mom in there but definitely dont want her jumping over gate again with them!

The reason I chose bathroom is the litter is in there for mom.

I didn't want to move the litter to our bedroom. We have three bathrooms, so I put them in the largest bathroom with closet and we avoid using it.

Sarthur2-It says on the box it kills eggs and larvae...it doesn't?? :(

What carpet spray should I get that really works?

It will kill flea eggs and larva on the cat, not the rug.  You may want to switch to Advantage II

There are different brands of carpet spray. I use one called the Enforcer in a can.
