I got flea powder for carpet & furniture & can I put a flea collar on her since she's nursing? I also grabbed baby powder for the kittens. I heard it will dry the fleas out & kill?
One more thing. .lily is looking thin. She eats several times a day but is there something to boost her nutrients besides her normal cat food?

No flea collar while she is nursing the kittens. The chemicals in it are not healthy for them. I also would not put baby powder on the kittens.

Like I said in Post #9, the Advantage II on mom's neck will kill fleas. You can also put a drop on each kitten's neck. It's pretty powerful. The carpet spray will kill larvae and prevent eggs from hatching.

Mom can have plain, boiled chicken, scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, cheese, full-fat yogurt, salmon, and a dish of KMR formula a day. Also give her dry kitten chow 24/7.

Yes Mom has had 2 doses of advantage 2....if I put on kittens she will lick it. Won't that be more harmful than the powder?

No. If you put a tiny drop on each kitten's neck it will be fine. Do you see fleas on the kittens?

Well, hopefully, between the Advantage II, the carpet spray (have you used it yet?), vacuuming, washing bedding in hot water, and your vigilance, you can get rid of the fleas.

You can put the flea collar in the vacuum bag or dirt compartment.  It will kill the fleas you vacuum up.

I did all the carpet with flea powder today, vacuumed all over, stripped all bedding, but if the advantage isn't working on Lily I feel like it was all for nothing :(

It can be a battle once you're infested. Last summer, I had to do all of it 2 times 10 days apart to get rid of everything. Summer time is flea season! [emoji]128528[/emoji]

I treated my cat 2 weeks apart when we were infested last summer. It did not harm her at all. You should be able to treat again now.

Lily has fleas (had them when we got her) I bought Advantage & shes had a dose last month & second one today. Theyre not going away! What all do I need to be doing? We have carpets & Im betting my vacuum isnt good enough. She has kittens now...what can I do for them? Any natural remedies would be great if effective!
2*weeks after my queen Babes gave birth to 7 kittens, we had a flea infestation. I had to bathe each with blue Dawn dish soap then take all 9 felines (mom, dad and babies) to be watched at another location. I sprinkled Borax on all the floors, furniture and beds. I left it to sit for a day and a half. Then shopvac everything and proceeded to flea bomb my apartment and cleaned with a steam mop. Mom and dad were applied flea treatment then i brought my feline family home. I hope this helps.

O oreolily

I forgot to mention that you'll need to worm your cat again after the fleas are gone. She'll have tapeworms, which are a result of swallowing fleas or eggs when cleaning herself. She'll need worming 2x also - 2 weeks apart to kill the cycle inside her body.

I think we are finally getting these fleas under control, I found a couple dead ones on Lily so after 3 doses I guess the Advantage II is working. I'm going to strip everything and spray/vacuum again this week.

A couple of the kitties are eating hard food every once in awhile. In order for them to be fully weaned to rehome, do they need  to have completely stopped nursing and eating hard food only? How much kitty food do they need per day? Thanks for all the knowledge!

They need to be eating wet food and dry kitten chow. In fact, it is much easier to wean kittens using wet food. And wet food is better for cats in general.

Yes, the kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned to solids before re-homing. They will wean to solids but still continue to nurse. It is preferable that the kittens stay with mom for 10-12 weeks before being re-homed, as they make much better pets. It is ideal to re-home them in pairs as well.
