Hi all,
Ive been on this forum for about week now and Ive taken great pleasure in meeting new people and finding out all about their cats. Ive had Martha now for about 2 weeks and mostly its going fine.
She got spayed on monday and is recovering well, the only thing is ,well 1, last night she was as high as a kite and kept scratching my foot and running full bottle neck speed all over my flat. She seemed so hyper, which in one way is good because it shows shes recovering after her operation. ( the vet was pleased with at her post op) But ive never seen her act so vibrantly before so just a tad worried. I should point out she is on her own fir about 8-9 hours when im at work but she has plenty of toys ,food and water so I think, well rather hope she's ok with this unavoidable situation.
Second for two days shes seems to be of her food, she picks at her food she doesn't just wolf it down but yesterday she ate nothing. And today the same problem.
Ive changed her food (wet) fron whiskas to supermarket brand to try to find her favourite. I also give a bit of fresh chicken and a few treats. She also has a bit of yogurt as well.
I think where im going wrong was by giving her the yogurt at the same time as her main food. So this morning I just gave her chicken and wet food. Both haven't been touched. So that she had something inside her I gave her a bit of yogurt which she lapped up straight away.
Im of to the vet on Tuesday but I really hope she begins to eat at least something. She ate a bit last night but not much.
She,by the way, also has a bowl of dried food as well.
Many thanks

She may not be eating wet because she prefers the dry food. Can you take away the dry and see if that encourages her to eat the wet? Or put a very specific amount of dry in the bowl (like 20 pieces) and see if she's nibbling on that? It might be hard to tell that she's eating if the bowl is full.

You might also want to put some tuna juice or treats on top of her wet food to get her to eat it. Most cats can't refuse chicken or turkey baby food (plain) - if she's stopped eating completely (after you monitor her dry food) you can try some of that to encourage her to eat.

Have you determined if she is eating anything.  It is CRITICAL that cats eat.  They cannot go too long without eating or they can get very ill.  By too long I mean usually less than 2 days of eating nothing.

If she is eating dry food and you want to transition her to wet, then Paiger 8 is right, you may have to make her wet food more tempting by putting something on top of it.

Maybe these articles will help you:
