Hi my custard is just 5days from her due date (so shes 58days today im pretty sure anyways lol),just now I noticed her licking her bits so had a look and there was a small amount of green discharge.. shes fine.. shes now just continuously grooming herself, is this normal should I be concerned or?... The last cat I had that gave birth - I saw green discharge and an hour later she had her babies but its too soon for custard yet. Advice is appreciated as I cant ask my vet anything unless I book her an appointment thank you xxxx

The mucus prop is often greenish.  And its not unusual it falls off even several days before delivery - even if theoretically its supposed to fall out shortly before delivery.

So, if this green discharge IS the mucus prop, its more or less normal.  Be vigilant, prepare as well you can - but you can calmly wait and see. Business almost as usual.

But other sorts of green discharge, may often be green pus, and this is directly alarming.

You being there must decide, and if unsure, contact your vet.

Does it smell bad? If it smells bad it may be infection, but in most cases with a near-term pregnant cat it is just pre-labor discharge.

Keep an eye on it.

It goes hard towards the very hard before labor starts, but it can go hard with a few days left. Is your cat's belly hard?

Hi again the internet says all different so thought id ask you lovelys..
what should the rectal temp of a due cat be? I havent been doing custards as she doesnt like people up in her business but i did it just now and it was 36.5c (dont know what that is in F°) and she is due any day now. Is that about right or should it be lower if birth is looming

Thank you

The temps are partly individudal.  But usually cats have   38,5 c - or 101-102F,   and 3F less when delivering, or about a full grade lower in Celsius.

If you measure in the armpit its 3F or a full grade C lower again....

Your high preg has thus a low temp well beneath the usual average.  My guess is her temp has dropped before delivry.

(unless she is visibly unwell - a unwell cat will to have such a tem when visiting the ER vet...)

I doubted that it was "Labour time" as shes still stuffing her face with wet food and treats!

I didnt quite get your explanation there stefan
Most cats have a temp about 38,5C.  Some few have it down to 37.

If yours has 36,5, her temp must have dropped....

Im happy she seems OK and normally behaving - this shows clearly she isnt dying.    She will deliver when her time for delivery has come.   :)

(sorry for the extra rant, I had such an experience not far ago, when my protegée had 36,5, being also noticeably ill-  he didnt make it...).

Exactly! Temperature and behavior are not reliable indicators of imminent labor.
