Hello cat covers, my kitty is taking medication for hyperthyroidism since last summer. My vet recommend radioactive iodine treatment to beat her condition once and for all. The clinic told me I have to stop giving her medication 2 weeks before treatment but I'm afraid that she will become sick. Anyone here have any experience with I 131 treatment?

UPDATE: my kitty just came home today after 5 days treatment. All went very well and she is happy to be home. She received an excellent care from top clinic here in Illinois, she was staying in well maintained room with soft music playing for cat's comfort :) two meals per day and lots of treats, her caretaker was great. Kitty seemed relaxed and not stressed out at all!
Two weeks without taking her meds before treatment was ok, she did not loose an appetite or become ill, but she did loose a pound or two. Dropped her off Monday and picked up today morning, received daily phone calls from her caretaker. Cost $1260 for I131 plus $350 for blood work and xrays needed before the treatment and done by my vet. I am blessed to have a job so I can provide  good medical care for my kitty. I know that even if I did not have enough I would eat less, cancel my cable, save $100 per month over one year or do whatever to save up for this treatment. She was diagnosed a year ago and it's been hard, I fell like pill is just a temporary fix, hard to maintain sometimes she wasn't getting enough sometimes the dose was to high, she was gaining and loosing weight, her heart was affected and my vet said I131 is the best option to keep her heart and other organs healthy.  We are looking forward to better quality of life from now on and many more years in good health for my kitty
