We have a Russian Blue who is around 15 years old.  She is in good health and appears to be very relaxed.  She will pull out her hair  on her back that leaves bald spots.  There are 2 other cats in the house. Does anyone have any ideas why she would this before I make an appointment at the Vet.

There are several things that can cause a cat to do this behavior. One is stress/anxiety another is allergies. This could be either environmental or food related. A cat can develop an allergy at any point in their life, even if you have always fed the same food, used the same cleaners, etc...

Another possibility could be fleas. Even indoor only cats can get fleas. Just one single bite can lead to a big allergic reaction.

Good that you have made an appointment with the vet.

If the vet feels this is allergy related, you can expected your vet to administer a steroid injection (typically Depo Medrol) and possibly put your cat on an antibiotic (if the vet feels there is a secondary bacterial infection.)

Let us know what you find out at the vet!
