I was looking at Spike's back claws today and noticed that on the underside, there seems to be a little crevis. He has alot of (what looks like) dirt under there. I guess it would be kind of like having dirt under your own nails.

I'm just wondering if this is something to be concerned about? It looks kind of gross, and made me want to go get something to clean it out with, but i was not sure if this was safe or even necessary. Any help would be great.

My cats have that as well, it seems to be like what you say dirt under the nails. I don't think it would be something to be concerned about....who knows.

It's not necessary, but good hygine. I have 2 cats that for some reason don't get the nails on thier back paws. The easiest way I have found is to make a mild dawn dish soap and water mixture, and clean them with q-tips and cotton balls

Thank you Sandie. I'll take your advice. I figured it was not necessary, but I tend to get a little anal with my babies
