Does anyone feed Castor and Pollux, specifically the Organix grain-free chicken and turkey? The ingredients actually look pretty good and the BIG PLUS seems to be NO GUMS!

I read that Castor and Pollux is owned by Merrick, which is owned by Purina, which is the BIG MINUS. Peas protein, peas, and carrots (why?!?) are other minuses, but still...no gums!

I avoid carrageenan completely, as it seems to make Max itchy. But most of the canned foods I feed contain at
least one gum, usually guar. Do you think the veggies outweigh the lack of gums? Am I better off feeding a food like Wild Calling with no veggies but Guar gum at #4 on the ingredient list? Or, since no one seems to have any current issues to guar gum or peas, does it even matter?

I do feed Wild Calling but no one is, well, wild about it.. I also feed Merrick LID, ZiwiPeak, TikiCat, Weruva, and some NV Instinct LID, as well as as much raw as they'll eat. Not everykitty will eat every brand/protein source. And I really want to increase the number of brands in my rotation.

If anyone else has tried it, I'd love to hear how your cats like it!

I haven't tried Castor & Pollux Organix, but my calculations using the guaranteed analysis suggest that the carb content may be on the high side (17-19%).

Fancy Feast Classic, while it contains guar gum, is low-carb and doesn't contain any veggies... and it's much more affordable.  We also feed Sheba, NV Instinct (Originals, not LID), Nutro (carrageenan-free varieties), Solid Gold, and Tiki Cat.  Primal and Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried raw and NV Instinct Ultimate Protein dry is also in the kitties' diets, but we feed canned the majority of the time.

Aside from feeding raw, I think Tiki Cat is the best option if you're determined to avoid carrageenan, gums, and veggies.

I'd rather feed guar gum than veggies any day. I avoid grains, corn, rice, potatoes, and any carby veggies. The only think I'm okay with feeding would be a little bit of pumpkin or squash, since that seems to help keep my cats "regular." One of my cats has a pretty sensitive stomach and guar gum doesn't seem to bother him.

Natural Cat Care Blog says this about gums, "Now, there are some small ingredients I’ve taken a great interest in – such as carrageenan and BPA. This is because there may be life-threatening  problems associated with these substances if they are consumed regularly over time. On the other hand, people ask about a lot of ingredients, like guar gum, that are not – to my knowledge thus far – known to be a big risk."

Basically, until proven otherwise, I'm not super concerned. In a perfect world, canned food would be meat and vitamins/minerals and that's it. But until there's more research on gums, I'm just going to have to do my best to pick a food that my cats will eat, and I feel good about feeding.

So I found Organix at my local grocery store, which is not where I normally look for cat food. I bought one can of each but none of my cats were interested. The quest for high quality canned foods that my cats will actually eat continues.

I also tried Organix once, they did not like it. All they like is Merrick, Soulistic, whole earth farms, tiki Cat and tiki carnivore.
They seem to like fancy feast and Friskies if they get it, which is good in an emergency! They were never Sheba fans, so they definitely have favorites.
