Geronimo is a neutered feral who was living in my yard, until the Rogue coaxed him through the cat door in December, so now he got accustomed to sleeping inside. He is at the bottom of the pack order and trying to move up. The Rogue died in April

Have you looked into Composure liquid Max?  It's a calming supplement ( nonsedating) that you can mix into wet food 1-2x a day.  It helps to deal with stress.  There are some reviews on Amazon and Entirelypets.com that tell of those having good luck with it for cats spraying.

I believe it is chicken flavored.  My cats readily take it mixed into food.

I really feel for you.  Cat spray is hard.  Some times it just becomes ingrained in the cat and it's really hard to stop.  Often when a cat sprays they are using it the scent not only to mark territory, but to comfort themselves.  They find the scent comforting.

There are also some flower essences that can be placed in food and spritzed around the room.  Jackson Galaxy makes a line called Spirit Essences.

At what age was he neutered? He has quite the cheek pads there - he's stunning btw.

Maybe this will help you with a few more ideas -

thank you, Anne!  I have no idea how old he is or when he has been neutered (he is a feral that showed up one day last spring).

So far, Nature's Miracle No More Spraying seems to work, in the areas I use it, that is. Problem is now he really likes to spray onto fresh laundry hanging up to dry, no matter where. Will have to use some scented laundry soap and hope for the best.

Geronimo obviously learned to spray before he moved into your house.  Neutered or not, most of the outside cats do it, both male and female.  When trying to move up the totem pole in status, cats also spray more often.  Once the new hierarchy is established, there is less spraying, but that can take some time.  Aside from the very good suggestions above, I might add that you need to find a better place to hang the laundry.  If it is outdoors, keep Geronimo inside until the laundry is dry and put away.  If it is indoors, put him in one room and confine him, or put him out and close the cat door, until it is dry and put away.  He is probably spraying it because it has not been sprayed by anyone else yet, so he is claiming this new territory as HIS.
