About 2 weeks ago I found a shriveled up ball of fur behind my job... I took her to the vet and found out she had a really bad eye infection. Me and my boyfriend decided to keep her but I'm worried about her weight . when we found her she weighed one pound and the vet said she might be blind for the rest of her life because the infection was so severe. It seems to be clearing up but I guess I'm not satisfied with her weight yet she's about 2 pounds now... But she feels like skin and bones still ... We did it right and fed her gradually more and more food over the course of 2 weeks .. How long till she starts to feel less like a skeleton .. It makes me anxious and upset

Hi! Thank you for rescuing this sweet little girl. You two are her angels! How old is she? Is she eating solids?

What are you feeding her and how often? You can supplement her food with KMR (Kitten milk replacement). This is found in pet stores and Wal Mart. A very good, popular brand is PetAg. This is very nutritious and will help her gain weight. Please do not give her cow's milk as she will not be able to handle the lactose. Full fat goat's milk is good too. I'd stick to canned food as much as possible now- assuming she is on solids. If you need some food recommendations, please let us know.

How is her appetite? While she is recovering, she should be able to eat as much as she wants. As she gets better and healthier, her appetite will go back to normal on its own.

The vet said she about 6 weeks but she's so tiny i have her on a diet of kitten milk and moist food. Her poops were pretty solid this morning . And she's starting to play more.

If she's 2 pounds at 6 weeks that's actually really good! Most kittsns gain about a pound a month until they are around 6 months old. I agree that you should keep feeding her as much as she wants, but I think she's better off than you think. Thanks to you!

Her eye are pretty bad still but they were swollen shut before the medication seem to be helping but we'll be going for a check up soon .. I wanna put a little more weight on her .. What do you guys think ? I hope she doesn't end up blind . we would still keep her it just makes me sad [emoji]128546[/emoji]

She looks older than 6 weeks to me. More like 10-12. You definitely want to keep feeding her as much as she wants. All the tips above are great.

Wow you two are so awesome for taking her in...I will be definitely praying for her and you! Do you have a name for her? Also give it time...she's not going to gain 3 pounds overnight...she's now in a good home and now she can start to allow the healing process to begin...if she's able to play that to me would indicate she can see...keep positive and keep up the good work!!!

What a little cutie.  She is eating and gaining weight so she is fine.  Even if she is blind she will adjust quite well, you  won't even know that she can't see.

We named her Barbara Gordon like batgirl [emoji]128512[/emoji][emoji]128076[/emoji] we'll be spoiling her no matter what so I'm just impatient for her to get better. I've taken in strays before but never one that was as sick as little Barbara so I was just worried and wanted some opinions.
Thank you [emoji]128568[/emoji]

She does look like her eyes are doing better! The swelling going down is a sign the infection is clearing. As others have said, even if she does lose her sight, she will probably acclimate quite quickly. Blind kitties can live very normal lives with surprisingly minor accommodations. But I'm pulling for her to get her sight back!

Don't worry too much about her weight. She's gaining well, and with severely emaciated animals (including humans!) feeding them too quickly can cause problems because their body doesn't know how to deal with so much food, after so long without eating. I don't know what her degree of emaciation was, but if you were given recommendations from your vet for controlled gain, stick to their recommendations about the amount and speed at which to feed her. Call back and ask questions if you want to change it.

If you weren't told to feed slowly, just feed her whatever she wants and be happy that she has a strong appetite and is eating consistently. It takes time to undo weight loss, just like it took time to lose the weight to begin with.

The fact that she's doubled her weight in a month is a good sign that her body is making a comeback and she'll continue to improve.

And I just want to echo the others: thank you so much for taking in this lucky little kitty. May you have many wonderful years together.

****Update****
She's squinting from the flash but her eyes are starting to look better I can still feel all her little bones to but she played a lot with me today.

When I was looking at her eyes this morning her third eyelid had more movement and wasn't swollen over her eye as much. It recedes a lot more when she opens her eye wide.. I think she's sees more now to because she spent a good part of the day staring off into no where [emoji]128522[/emoji][emoji]128513[/emoji] .. I've been using natural safe for cats tear free shampoo on her for the flees and she's super soft after washing her every other day for a week plus the shampoo also has ingredients for irritated skin which got rid of a lot of puffy redness

That's a really good sign! The squinting in light may indicate that she does indeed have some sight. Go Barbara Gordon!

Wow she's coming right along...due largely in part because of your care...she's also a fighter...and of course I believe God has His hand on this little girl...and she squinted...that's GREAT!!! Keep up the excellent care on her...she's doing a lot better and it seems like she'll just keep getting better from this point on [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

So wonderful of you to take her in and give her the care she needs. I wouldn't worry too much about her weight as long as she is eating. It will take some time, there are some things you can do to help her put on weight quicker, free feeding and letting her have access to as much food as she wants, as long as the vet doesn't see a need to slow her eating. Make sure you give her food that is higher in protein this will satisfy her more and help her grow. Many kittens are underweight when found outside but often it won't stunt their growth if they are taken in and given the care that they need. Glad to see she is doing better.

She's been really good today... One of here eyes still has a white film so I think she's gonna be blind in one.. But the other is clearing up nicely its hard to get a picture of her eye open because she has a lot of energy and won't stay still lol ..... All in all she's starting to gain weight very nicely ... And she can find her food and litter box on her own [emoji]128568[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji]
