I just joined, I don't know how long ago because I have been trying to figure this thing out. But anyway, my name is Jessica but you can call me Jessi.

I have a couple of questions.

1.) This is not our cat, she is a neighbors but she has free roam of our place. Btw, her actual owner does not seem that worried about her even though he rescued her when she was a kitten herself off the streets. We are cat people because cats are so awesome. She came up here to our place 30 minutes before she had her babies. She has been here since and she had them on June 17. The kittens are 1 wk and 4 days old. Should I take them back to the owner because we already picked one, I'm scared we won't get our girl even though he said we could have one. Mama seems very happy and content up here which leads me to my second question.

2.) The last couple of days, she has been bringing them out of her nest and putting them in my boyfriends chair. He was at work yesterday and here she comes, one by one, putting them next to me while I'm sitting in his chair. Why?

3.) When she moves them in here, she seems kinda panicky. Walking back and forth constantly meowing, nothing is wrong with her babies, they all are thriving. We pet her to let her know all is ok but I can't help but worry. Why is she doing this after moving them from our room to the living room where all the excitement goes down? But after a little bit, she calms down.

I am new to this kinda thing so that's why I'm asking.

She had 4 boys and 1 girl.

TIA!

Hi  Jessi,

Welcome Welcome
  Congrats on your new babies!

*it could be you need to change the bedding in the nest more

frequently found every 2 days does the trick solved any moving relocating thoughts in mom... it needs to be a safe quiet out of the main traffic areas away from other pets low stress as possible big enough room as well.

Can you invite the owner over for a visit? Then a decision can be made
it's less stressful to keep

her at your place that's where she chose. Gifting one or two kittens to you would be a fair deal....

This link is about hand rearing kittens but also has info on weighing kittens, fading kitten syndrome and other topics to be aware of plus lots of other kitten links, any help you need to raise this little ones is right here just ask :) there is a forum 'pregnant cats and kitten care '

Where we have her and the babies is out of traffic but yet she keeps bringing them in here. I changed her bedding and gave her fresh food in a different room but she keeps doing the same thing. Is it possible she wants her kittens around us? We are mostly in the living room until we go to bed. I actually thought about taking them to her owner but I'm afraid of his son's friend. He doesn't seem the friendly kind. The owner doesn't seem too concerned with her being gone. I left out that I did talk to him one night and told him she stays the night with us sometimes, He acted like he didn't care.

That sounds nice you have the pleasure of raising these babies, plus selecting one

Do you have a big basket?

It's possible she wants your company feels secure with you around her and babies.

Can you find a closet corner or something she might enjoy that she can pop into the main area easily?  *Their eyes will start to open very soon...they're still very young so you don't want to handle them to often best to get her settled in an area that you can also block off keeping them together.

A tip/ when changing the bedding best to leave one little blanket something small of original

or other bed the babies go by scent this way a new bed still smells like home...

It sounds like you should keep the kittens with you, as long as that's ok with you! It does sound like mom wants to be around you. You can make an alternate nest in the living room. What are you feeding mom?

I would keep mom and babies with you. There is a reason why this cat chose to have her babies at your house. She very clearly trusts you.

She also wants to be in the living area with you. It's hard work for mom to keep moving her babies, and not that good for the kittens, so I would put her nest in the room where she wants them and let it be.

Mom needs as much kitten chow and wet food (and water) as she wants right now. Is her litter box nearby too?

I also would not let her outside. Anything can happen, and the kittens need her. Mom will need to be spayed when the litter is weaned around 8 weeks of age.

Thank you for taking care of her. The owner does not sound very responsible.

I would think that if the owner is that nonchalant about her, I'd just forget about sending her or any of them back

Sounds like you are a great kitty family!!

This is the only girl out of the 5.

Thank you all for the response.

The kittens eyes opened 5 days ago, all of them. We are feeding her cat food and water, some milk every so often for the extra nutrition and calories. I would put her in the living room but our daughter is very hands on and I don't trust her at the moment to be alone with them, she LOVES animals so we let Mama bring her babies in here when we are in here but when we go to bed, we move them back to our room. As far as the litter box, she doesn't have one because her owner actually potty trained her to use the bathroom outside believe it or not so we never used one since we have known her. She isn't ours so I don't want to go changing things. She is very trusting with us and very lovable. I also haven't bothered to take them back since the owner isn't that worried and I know he has seen her out since she had them.

If mom is carrying all her kittens back and forth daily by the scruff, you need to help her. It's too much for her.

Two notes:

Mom can actually get pregnant again already, so you don't want her going outside. This can happen even if she doesn't go into heat. Can you introduce a litter box and see how she does? You can add some dirt to it and see how she does.

Also, cow milk upsets cat tummies. Goat milk is usually ok, and kmr is great for mom and kittens when they start to wean. That's a very sweet kitten!

There should be no next litter. She needs spaying. We can locate a low-cost spay clinic in your area for you if you give us your city and state.

Endless, back to back litters are very hard on a cat. Even if you share the spay information with her owner. Though from the sound of it, they won't spay her. The cost is very cheap. Please consider doing the mom cat the favor.
