Hello everyone! I bathed my cat yesterday. We keep the litter box in the same bathroom. She is a litter loyalist. She's never had an accident.

Yesterday she peed and pooped in the kitchen for the first time. The first accident she has ever had. Sage is 3 and the most wonderful rescue kitty. She is my first cat and I by no means ever intend to do anything other than keep loving the poop out of her.

Advice? Have we traumatised her so much that she loathes the bathroom? She has since peed in the little box again once. She usually goes two to three times daily and had a mid-day poop.

TMI on my cats habits? Perhaps. I'm just worried that she's permanently frightened on the bathroom.

If she keeps having accidents elsewhere then perhaps it would be a good idea to add a litter box in another area of the house.  It will help break the bad association that may have formed between the bath and in the litter box being in the same room.

One of my cats was treated for a UTI and the vet advised me to add a new litter box in a different area of the house.  I did this over a pretty short period of time he started using the litter boxes he had used for years again.  I eventually moved the new litter box to the old location and there were no more problems.
