I;ll start by saying that we are going to the vet tomorrow with her, but I am hoping that I may get some peace of mind. I have a kitten that turned three months old today that I have been fostering since she was born in my care. She is part of a litter of 8 kittens and none are very large kittens at all (1.8 pounds for the runt and just hitting 2 pound to 2.6 pounds for the larger kittens). She personally weighs a very bony 1.9 pounds, she has been putting on weight in a manner that has been on point with the other girls in her litter until this past week when she has fallen behind. More than falling behind, she has become extremely bony for a kitten that has always been long and lanky to begin with. She has no other real symptoms (no fever, throwing up, loose stool, or anything else that is normal with kitten illnesses), but she does make a silent motion  that looks like she is gagging every few minutes or will make a face that looks like she has to sneeze (both are hard to describe) but yet she never does and, like I said, has never thrown up.

She is still eating, drinking, and playing in an amount that has been normal for her (she is more of a low key/cuddly kitten but she still plays with things in my lap and with her sisters). My big concern is that it is FIP, but what could that gagging be? Or do you have any other thoughts of what it may be?

Thank you for helping a concerned mama!

Have these kittens received regular vet care? 1.8 lbs is SUPER tiny for a 12+ week old kitten! This is what a 7-8 week old kitten weighs. 12 week old kittens should be closing in on 3 lbs.

Have the kittens been dewormed? Treated for fleas?

The gagging could be due to nausea or sinus drainage. Kittens this little rarely have hairballs, so don't think this is the problem.

Is it possible that she has eaten something that is stuck in her throat?

The kittens are part of the humane society and have been dewormed about 4 times (including for tapes as a precaution due to the entire litter being small), they have also received 3 FVRCP vaccines. The kittens that are over 2 pounds have been combo tested and are all negative. The vet looked at them about two weeks ago and said they are all very healthy, just small and probably due to being such a large litter (even their birth weights were low, the runt weighed like 40 grams and healthy kittens were around 60 grams). All have been gaining weight on a regular pace (again just slower) up until this last week. They had an upper respiratory infection going on a month ago, hence the visit with the vet and the clean bill of health at that point. None of the kittens in this litter have the obsession with food like other litters that I have fostered have had but still eat good amounts.

Oh and they have all been treated for fleas twice now using a monthly topical.
