Hi I am new to this website and found a stray female cat who just had 2 very tiny kittens. It seems like she is going to have more but is breathing very fast with her mouth open. I took her to my house and fed her cat food since I have 2 male cats who are neutered. I have no idea what to do. She doesn't want water. Another problem the newborns do not want to nurse one of them will cry very loud and the other one is silent. I put one to eat but she pushed him away and wont let him nurse. What do I do? I spent a lot of money yesterday for my male kitten who was feeling ill at the vet. I thought maybe I could take her to animal shelter but it is closed on Mondays. I just don't want anything to happen to the mama and babies thank you for your help.

Has mama kitty had any more kittens yet? The breathing is mama cat being in labor.

The kittens need to stay warm. Do you have a heating pad or hot water bottle?

Have the kittens nursed by now? If not you may need to supplement them with kitten formula.

Let me know what's going on.

Thank you for taking her in!

How it is going?  Hopefully when mama is done with delivering, she will take care of the matters.  Healthy kittens can wait some.

The problem here, we arent sure they are healthy - you think they are smallish.   If so, you must be prepared to supplement them, using a needleless syringe, and kmr - formula, or goats milk.  The good with a syringe, weak cats or weak sucklers, whom dont manage to suckle from momma, they can often be saved this way - its enough they can swallow.

Be sure they are warm - or if its very hot at your place, help so its not too hot...  If necessary, you can perk some energy in them by smearing a little glucose sugar on their lips and gum - for example thick honey water.

You dont need to go to vet with them at this moment - they dont need vet care, they need a rescuers care.

If the shelter specializes of fostering - the shelter may be an option.  Either them, or they let you be their fostering home - this way they help you with vet costs...

But admitting a momma with weak kittens to a shelter which doesnt work with them - risks they are pts immediately.

So this way or another - YOU are their best bet - alone or with cooperation of the shelter.   Also, YOU having a special interest for them, even love - is a mighty power in these her cases.

So, what you need:

A needleless syringe of 1 or 1,5ml

kmr-formula or goats milk   - of formulas, if you can get PetAgs KMR; this in powder is best, but this liquid is cheap - you can begin with such a cheap premade liquid.

A scale, measuring in grammes, so you know how big they are, and if they gain properly

some glucose sugar source - may be white caro syrup or honey.

And read on!  We do have useful articles on this site, you see them around this forum.  you will surely find other treads...

Come back with reports and further questions - there is almost always someone her whom will answer you.

Tx for caring!
