I'm thinking about getting a new fountain for my cats. I currently have a Drinkwell 360 in stainless steel. I've had it for several years, and the cats like it. But...It's gotten progressively harder to keep clean and I have to clean it more and more often. It's a pain to disassemble all the bits and pieces. I will never go back to plastic, so I'm thinking about getting one of the Petsafe ceramic fountains and I'm wondering if the ceramics are easier to care for long-term than the stainless. Any thoughts or recommendations?

I have this ceramic one  and I really like it. I clean it once a week, and it probably takes me 2 minutes to clean. The bowl and the ceramic fountain top are the main parts, and then the only other parts are the filter and the pump. I just rinse the filter in hot water well, wipe the bowl out, rinse the pump, and put back together. Once a month, I'll pull the top off the pump and rinse the propeller. It's magnetic, so it pops out easily.

You can also put both the bowl and the top part in the dishwasher if you really want a deep clean or you have hard water.

How timely. I shall follow this closely as I was overwhelmed by the number of choices in the pet store this week. This really is on the top of my cat things to buy list.

Oh a convenient thread for me as well!

I have been looking for a fountain too. I'm looking for something that won't require maintenance costs (no replacement filters that i HAVE to buy. The tap water where I live is really good and clean as it is, I drink it myself all day), and runs quietly and easy to clean and lasts a long time (the fountains I've looked at are all roughly $100 and up, so for that price, it better last a long time!).

UPDATE: I ended up buying the Pagoda fountain in red. I've had it for about a week and a half now and am quite pleased with it. The three cats who previously used the Drinkwell 360 all started drinking from the new Pagoda in about five days. For the first couple of days I had both plugged in next to each other, then I turned off the 360 but left it on the floor with water in the basin for a few days. Once I saw the last cat drinking from the new fountain, I removed the old one.

Cleaning the ceramic Pagoda is much easier than the stainless. Way fewer parts and smoother surfaces, without all the little nooks and crannies that are on the 360. That's what bothered me the most about that one...so hard to get into all the little spaces to clean, so I would put it off for far too long, which made it even harder to get clean! It also seems like it is easier to wash away the saliva-slime from the ceramic than the stainless.  It's heavy and sloshy when full of water, so next time I'll remove the tower before I move the whole thing to the sink for cleaning.

Anyway, long story short, I am happy with the new fountain, and the cats seem to like it too. Thanks to all who provided input!
