I just got off of the phone with the nutritionist from Wild Calling because I noticed last night when I gave Graysan and Yong-gi their Rabbit Burrow formula it appeared to be different.  They even smelled at the food as if it were something new but they ate it.  Not with the enthusiasm that they did before but slow and steady.  Today Graysan is itching like mad.  I sprayed him down with his hot spot spray and had to collar him.  Even the anti-histamine is not helping with the itch.

I had noticed that they added cassia and xantham gums to their formula but I did not think it would make a difference.  When I spoke to the gentleman on the phone he explained to me that they use two plants for their foods.  The silver can is the one that is from Evangers.  The gold can is from a place in Utah.   So the formulas are different.  The one that is the gold can does not add liver, the have the extra gums and they use calcium carbonate instead of calcium sulfate.  The silver can is more like meat in gravy but the gold is like a stiff pate.  He said Rabbit Burrow is their number one selling product and Evangers can not keep up with production so they have to use another plant to meet demand.  The problem is that the other plant will not use liver and they have a different guideline for how to manufacture the food.

He assured me that the machines are supposed to be cleaned properly in between formulas so the proteins are not mixing together but I question that as well because we believe that Graysan may be allergic to chicken and fish.  If it is just rabbit with extra gums why is he itching?   Graysan is licking and chewing himself today.  He appeared as if he was doing better on the other formula.  Barely an itch over the past week.  But after a half of a can of the gold can Wild Calling Rabbit Burrow he is tearing himself to shreds!!!  And nothing seems to be helping at the moment.  Luckily he gets his prednisolone tonight but he is super itchy atm.

I told him that it should be noted on their site so people that have pets with allergies can make an informed decision.  He said he was going to address it in their next meeting. I have to return the case with the gold cans.

So I am just sending out a warning to people that feed this brand that they use two different plants and the formulas are different so check the ingredients before you buy.  And make sure that whichever formula is working for you (whether gold or silver can) that it is the right one that you are purchasing.

Very interesting. I had noticed that some cans were gold and others silver and wondered why. I've also noticed that my local store has been out of stock on Rabbit Burrow for several weeks. And the WC foods are kind of hit and miss with my crew. They didn't care much for the last can of rabbit I opened for them, but had loved it previously. I'll start paying more attention to the can color.

Thank you for posting this info. I hope that Graysan feels better soon.
