Meet Murdock!

Excuse the goo....he had medicine on his face.

Murdock is a 5 week old rescue kitten that is my newest foster. He was born either without eyes or with eyes so small and underdeveloped that we can't find them. He has empty eye sockets that are slightly infected, but he has good lid movement and enough tear production to keep the sockets moist for now.  Murdock is settling in really well for being a feral kitten. He has mastered the litter box, eating well, and is starting to really play!  I know the basics for caring for a blind baby. Don't move things around and don't pick him up and move him. When I hold him, I always put him back down next to his food so he knows where he is.

My question is... what can I do to stimulate Murdock or help him play or interact with the other foster kittens? He knows they are there, but can't follow and keep up.  Should I get some balls that make sound for play and maybe attach a collar with a bell to one of the other kittens?  Do I just keep giving him time?  Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

How long have you had him? I know it takes time to adjust to new surrounds and animals. Sounds and smells are VERY important for these blind babies. Putting a bell on another kitten may confuse him if you get bell toys. Kittens have their own language he will pick up on. The best thing to stimulate play is with toys that make sound. Get all the kitten involved and yourself. Making oat sounds and then "attacking" him lightly should bring out a natural playful Kitty.this should be done slowly where he learns what certain sounds mean and make sure to make noise to him and use shirt phrases when around to handle him

I have a blind from birth cat and she is super happy and well adjusted.  I would give the kitten time, and he will figure things out.  You might want to keep the toilet covers down as well :)

He has been with me less than a week and is slowly figuring things out. His favorite toy right now is a boot with laces. It sounds like I just need to get some toys that make noise for everyone to play with and let him join in when he is ready.

Toilet seats are closed. :)

Any other advice is welcome!
