Hello, we found a black Abyssinian cat with an ear tattoo we cannot de-code.  We live in Canada, close to the US border and a major long-distance trucking terminal.  The tattoo doesn't match any system in use here, so I wonder if he's an international stowaway traveller?  His tattoo is 2CFBP.  He's very friendly and is settling in well, and he even has a girlfriend now, so we're happy to keep him.   But we suppose there's a loving owner somewhere, who's looking for him and we'd like to give them closure.  Any information on figuring out where this cat may be from would be helpful.  Thanks.

Have you had him checked over by a vet? If he has a tattoo he might be microchipped too. Your vet might be able to find out where his tattoo originates from.

If he is a pedigree Abyssinian his original owners will probably be very happy to have him back. You could also try breeders in your area to see if he came from them.

How long has he been with you?

Hi, yes we did take him to a vet who said he didn't have a chip.  The vet thinks he's about 8, given the state of his teeth (he needed some minor work).

He's been with us now for 6 weeks, and as I said he's making himself at home.  I will take up your suggestion about the breeder community though.  Thanks for the advice.
