BREAKING NEWS: Radagast Pet Food, Inc. of Portland, Oregon has announced a voluntary recall of four lots of its Frozen Rad Cat Raw Diet, which may be contaminated by Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

Untreated, a Listeria infection in a cat can result in paralysis and in swelling of the brain. Salmonella and Listeria can be carried past consumption as well, affecting other pets, and even humans. Untreated, humans can experience arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

The affected products have been distributed throughout Western Canada and 48 of 50 of the United States (all but Hawaii and Mississippi). Please check to see if you have any of these products in your possession:

This is why I don't feed raw.
Honestly canned and kibble companies have way more recalls than small raw companies. Purina, Blue Buffalo, Iams, Hills, and other mainstream companies have all had a ton of recalls. Back in 2007, THOUSANDS of pets died from tainted kibble and canned. Not one has died or even gotten sick with this RadCat recall. Statistically, much more falls through the cracks with mega companies like those.

This whole recall is ridiculous. First, it would be super rare for a cat to contract listeria, since their digestive systems work much differently than ours do. But the food was tested twice by independent 3rd party labs and it tested negative both times. It was only the FDA test that supposedly found contamination.

This recall is small potatoes. Rad Cat is a very reputable company that has their own independent third party company that tests their products and did not find any bacterias. No cats became ill, and the reality is cats are exposed to lots of bacterias every day that don't make them ill. I just bought 5 tubs of RC.

I think Rad Cat is probably THE most reputable pet food manufacturer today.

I'll continue to buy from them as well.

I am late to this thread but I want to reiterate, we feel very confident that Rad Cat is a great pet food company and will continue feeding it. My kitten K.C. just loves it and I am hoping I can get Buster to eat it one day as well.  My local pet store advised us that the lots that were recalled were found to never have been sold in any of their stores as it turns out.

YES. And if anyone disagrees, please run a google search on how many recalls (and related pets deaths) there have been from major cat food companies that sell cooked (canned and dry) food.

My one cat who likes the re-hydrated freeze dried loves Radcat, but.....I have to gently cook it or he won't eat it. I know...not supposed to cook it but he won't touch it completely raw. I like that they don't use ground bone for the calcium but rather eggshell.
