A few weeks ago I adopted a little guy. He was listed at the rescue center as being a siamese cross. As to what he's crossed with, I'm not sure. Pretty sure it's just tabby. This is Bucky, The Whisker Soldier. He's 15 weeks old so I'm sure his fur will darken in spots as he gets older. And I know the photos don't really show it but his eyes are blue. He likes to sleep under my desk because of the heat from my computer

Then a few days ago, I walked into a pet store and saw this gorgeous girl up for adoption. I instantly fell in love with her. I know she's mostly siamese. Close to a seal point. But she doesn't have the slender body and long face of a traditional siamese. This is Symmetra. She's roughly 1 year old. Her coat currently isn't in the greatest condition because of the food she was being fed in the store.

I'd just like to be sure about both because I want to care for them the best that I can. For example with grooming. I brush my other two cats regularly but I've been reading that siamese coats shouldn't be brushed as it can actually damage them. I don't want to damage my babies coats :( Help!

Bucky almost looks like a Lynx Point.

Symmetra on the other hand looks nearly identical to 2 Himalayans I know, aside from her shorter fur length. Though, if she is malnourished, has been sick or has recently had kittens (or all the above!) we may just be seeing mostly her undercoat. We took in a cat like that a few years back and once she weaned her kittens and we could focus on getting her healthy, she started to look like a completely different cat.

Re the boy.  I think the real question is not what he is crossed with, but what mix he is from.  And this we really dont know.

In both, the parents could be almost any looks, but they were carriers of the point gene.  and voilá - in the litter there was one or two pointed kittens "siamese mixes".

The Ancestry may be 50 generations back.

The only we know, at least one parent was a tabby, and at least one parent had a lotsa of white.

My guess is the parents were "common, typical domestics" - his head shape seems as from a regular cat.

Im not sure on his point color.  blue perhaps.

Yes, he is a lynx point bicolor.   Having this lotsa of white.

The girl?   The overall analysis is essentielly the same, although her Ancestor may be quite near.  Her head reminds of some breeds of pointed cats.

An apple headed siamese, or ragdoll as mentioned...

A ragdoll mated with a shorthair become a shorthair.  and perhaps remated again - the litter will be mainly points, half shorthair, half longhair...

So then knowing that neither of them are pure siamese, does the same rules of grooming apply to my cats?

I dont know really.  I would suspect its grooming as usual with shorthairs.

We know the point gene doubled up gives the point pattern and colors.  I really dont know of it has influence on the self fur.

But most shorthairs dont need much grooming.
